Plot summary:

Gawain runs into some members of the U.S. team who don’t consider him a worthy opponent.

He gets mad at them so they challenge him to contest in driving. Gawain impresses them with his drive, but their ringleader, Quester Phoenix, shows his talents too.

Quester also has the gift of “rising impact” but is more refined and drives his shot further with an iron.

Gawain is devasted to see someone better than him and he goes into an emotional spiral that messes up his game.

Platalissa meets her sister, Sfida who is in the U.K. team but Sfida is very mean to her sister. Platalissa tells Gawain that they were close as children but drifted apart.

Lancelot helps Gawain get through his rough patch and he regains his rhythm right before the tournament starts.

The team competition pits pairs of two from each school against each other, and Gawain and Lancelot are paired together as a dark horse.

Each hole is worth a single point and it carries over if two teams tie on a single hole. The U.K. pair has Sfida and Ice, while the U.S. pair has Quester and Bilford.

Gawain’s technique of driving is much improved and this adversely affects Quester. The U.K. pair take it easy on the first nine and then show their true strength.

By the final hole, it is neck and neck but Gawain and Lancelot win their round with 10 points. Wanglian and Yumiko get 6 points in theirs, but Liebel and Todoin get none.

They were the strongest team from Japan but their round was dominated by the U.K. team’s ace, Tristan, and his partner Percival.

The U.K. team wins the team competition with 26 points while Japan comes second with 16 and the U.S. comes third with 10.

Lancelot doubted himself for the first team during the team competition but Gawain helped him recover.

Liebel and Todoin are in the dumps after their defeat, but they regain their composure. Todoin gets encouragement from his teammates back home.

Liebel gets a pep talk from Gawain and is also challenged by Quester, who lost to him at a junior cup two years ago and wants to redeem himself.

Tristan had a poor upbringing and his father worked tirelessly so that Tristan could pursue his dream of playing golf.

While he got recruited to the Camelot Academy, his father died of exhaustion and he promised to be the greatest professional golfer in the world in his father’s honor.

He also has a gift similar to Gawain’s rising impact and Lancelot’s shining road which makes him an expert within 120 yards of the hole.

His skills are miles ahead of everyone else and he is very cold and calculating in his approach.

In the individual competition, there are 7 groups of 3 with one player from each academy. Gawain is paired with Percival from the U.K. and Charles from the U.S.

Lancelot plays against Tristan and Kate from the U.S. He gets to see Tristan’s quality up close and it unsettles him when he goes behind early on.

Gawain is just keen on having fun and Percival is enchanted to meet someone so carefree and talented.

Quester’s father, Arthur, is secretly watching the tournament and he is surprised to see Gawain’s use of the “rising impact”.

He introduces himself after the first nine and asks about Gawain’s mother. He says that she passed away soon after he was born and Arthur takes this news quite seriously.

Tristan takes the lead with a nine-under, but Wanglian is the surprise package as he reaches second and Lancelot is third.

Wanglian’s sister Guanglian plays for the British team and she is almost as good as him.

Lancelot drops off in the next few holes after having his confidence shattered. He was never challenged like this before and he couldn’t handle it.

At the 11th hole, Percival gets jealous after Gawain pulls off an almost impossible shot. She hits a shot straight at the tree and Gawain pushes her out of the way of the rebound.

He takes a nasty blow to the head and starts bleeding but he insists on continuing. His demeanor changes as he is suddenly able to read the game infinitely better.

He also helps Lancelot get out of his funk and they start taking Tristan on more aggressively. He is taken aback by their quality and his game falters momentarily.

By the final hole, Tristan is at a 12-under but Lancelot only has a 4-under so he cannot catch up.

Gawain gets to the final hole at 11-under but he has lost a lot of blood from his injury. Tristan gets it in two strokes after straying from his usual gameplan.

Gawain almost collapses but wants to play on and win the tournament. He almost gets a hole-in-one but the ball hits the pin and falls right outside the cup.

He then collapses as Quester and Leibel come rushing behind to catch him.

Ending explained:

The results

Tristan wins the competition and Wanglian comes second. Gawain wasn’t able to finish the game as he was taken to the hospital so Percival also forfeited her game.

The doctor tells Ms. Aria that Gawain will be fine within a week and she is relieved to hear that.

Tristan is awarded one of the Ring of Twelve clubs for winning as everyone else watches in astonishment.

Liebel and Quester part ways on good terms and Platalissa is disappointed because she was handily beaten by her sister.

Rest and recuperation

Gawain wakes up in the hospital and Percival is waiting by his side. She says that he could have finished second if he played on.

He says that his memory after the injury is fuzzy but he vaguely remembers what happened.

He gets a brief visit from Arthur but after that, he goes with Percival to her house so that he can practice again before he forgets how he played in the cup.

He spends the week with her and has a lot of fun.

Taking on the world

Sfida rushes to the airport so that she can make up with her sister before she leaves. Wanglian is nowhere to be seen, and Quester doesn’t find his girlfriend, Bridget either.

He looks outside his window and sees his father standing with Wanglian and his sister, and Bridget is next to them too.

Arthur is Gawain’s father too, and he tries to recruit Gawain for his team. He wants to start a kingdom of talented players who compete against the best of the best.

Gawain refuses because he believes he is not ready, but Arthur poaches the others. He doesn’t reveal to anyone else that he is Gawain’s father, although Quester has his doubts.

Before Gawain leaves, Tristan shows up to hand over the prize because Gawain could have won it. Gawain gives it back and says that Tristan won fair and square.

He is excited by how he was tested on this trip and looking forward to what challenges lie in his future.
