In Foundation season 2, Queen Sareth I is the ruler and sole descendant of Cloud Dominion. Cleon XVII intends to marry her and grow his Empire. Ella-Rae Smith plays Queen Sareth.
Queen Sareth holds several titles to her name, including the doyen of the Trade Leagues, the prime witness of the Cloud Cathedral, and the most excellent queen. She is often joined by her enjoiner, Rue.
Queen Sareth is very curious and clever. She has been able to lure the likes of Brother Day into telling the truth. She shows no fear in questioning the Empire about the way it works and how her marriage to Brother Day could disrupt the concept of the genetic dynasty.
Sareth is pretty aware that the dynasty was corrupted some time ago, and that is why Brother Day could be interested in her.
Sareth’s dark past
Sareth’s oldest sister, the crown princess, was trained in leadership, and her brother was an officer in the Royal Hussars. Sareth was allowed to be a dilettante and pursue her interests.
However, a zeppelin crash killed her family. Now, she is the Dominion with no education to rule. Some suspect that she engineered the accident to claim the crown for herself. The thing is, she herself is investigating the death of her family.
Sareth investigates the Empire
Sareth suspects that the Empire has a hand in her family’s death. She was a million steps away from the throne. Not a single person in the line of succession ahead of her would have agreed to align with the Empire.
One mysterious accident later, she is on the throne, the weakest member of her family, ruling a weakened Dominion at the same time when Brother Day is looking for someone desperate enough to climb on top of an Empire.
In order to get to the truth, she tries to form a close bond with Brother Dawn, Cleon XVIII, who doesn’t deny that he could be capable of pulling it off.
Queen Sareth is one of the suspects in the assassination attempt on Brother Day. She denies her involvement, but in the fourth episode, she meets a soldier named Markley at the Empire who is willing to talk to her for money. She demands to see the visual records of the assassination attempt to see how Brother Day survived.
Markley is assured that Dominion has the technology to block or reverse memory swipes and is asked to speak. Markley lets Sareth know that he doesn’t know how to find out if the Empire had a hand in the death of her family, but he knows where to start.
