Park Min-Hwan: Marry My Husband character explained

Park Min-Hwan is one of the main characters in Prime Video’s fantasy romantic thriller, Marry My Husband. Lee Yi-Kyung plays the character on the show.

In 2023, Park Min-Hwan treats his wife, Kang Ji-Won, with great apathy and inhumanity, even as she lives out her last days while suffering from stage 4 gastric cancer.

After pushing her to her death, Park Min-Hwan is the first man Ji-Won wakes up to in her past, having been transported back in time ten years, to 2013.

Boyfriend material…of the lowest grade

As a boyfriend, Min-Hwan is more or less the same man as he is after the marriage. He tries to appear much more open-minded, but it’s all a very obvious facade.

He spends all the money that’s not his. He uses Ji-Won’s card and cash loans and has a lot of her money.

All this was possible because she was afraid of a breakup so she did whatever he wanted. Although he doesn’t really care if she dies, Min-Hwan can’t stand the idea of a breakup.

Husband from hell

Park Min-Hwan is the worst possible man Ji-Won could have married. He proves that shortly after their marriage.

Along with her mother-in-law’s true colors, the truly despicable side of Min-Hwan gradually adapts to more and more comfort.

In turn, this only worsens Ji-Won’s life, which is already a hellscape.

He eventually quits his job to get into stock trading full-time, despite being short on loan payments that Ji-Won reminds him about.

Most of his time is spent lazing about playing video games. He can’t move a muscle to even do simple household chores, and growls at her when Ji-Won tries to point it out.

When she is diagnosed with stage 4 gastric cancer, he is concerned about who will make his meals now. As his mother coddles him, the two make snide remarks at Ji-Won.

He also disregards her working overtime to keep up with the finances.

He tells her working overtime just means she’s bad at her work, as her body is completely wrecked with several chronic ailments.

He cheats and kills

If all that wasn’t enough, Park Min-Hwan has more up his sleeve to offer, to add to Ji-Won’s misery. He is cheating on her with her best friend since childhood, Jeong Su-Min.

When he stops paying her hospital bills, Ji-Won is forced to come to the house to confront him, since he won’t answer her calls either.

She pushes herself up the stairs to find that Min-Hwan and Su-Min are sleeping together. But it doesn’t stop there.

She overhears Min-Hwan talking about the ingenuity of his cruelty.

He knew her father had died of cancer, and now she had started showing the signs too, as she kept getting thinner. So he went ahead and took out a policy.

A billion won if she dies, that’s what he tells Su-Min. He had already got the diagnostic insurance to buy Su-Min a designer bag, and then put the rest in stock to buy her a better one.

When Ji-Won catches the two red-handed, he shows no remorse, guilt, or shame. He is bothered as always and annoyed by Ji-Won’s presence.

When Ji-Won tries to throw things at the two with whatever residual strength she has in her sickly arms, he worries for Su-Min’s wellbeing.

When she tries to throw her hands at Su-Min, he stops her and pushes her away. She falls backward and bleeds to death after hitting the glass table.

Even as she dies, he wonders if they’ll get paid the insurance money or not, having little fear of repercussions or the horrors of guilt.
