Pandit Upadhyay is a major supporting character in Netflix’s crime comedy caper series, Choona. The character is played by Atul Srivastava.
There are many men who seek revenge against the tyrannical politician Shukla, who tormented them all in one way or another. One of these men is Pandit Ramacharya Upadhyay.
A prestigious priest who works for wealthy and powerful men, conducting rituals and ceremonies for them to ward off omens and counter the bad fate that befalls them because of some astrological misalignment of the planets.
However, Upadhyay can’t predict the grim fate that befalls him, and as he nearly succumbs to the mortal end point, he’s rescued by an unlikely savior — his killer Shukla’s own brother-in-law, Bishnu.
Undisputed astrology expert
Pandit Upadhyay’s treasure trove of knowledge on astrology, horoscope, and Vaastu is pretty much unparalleled in Choona.
Not even the overtly superstitious and expert on all the aforementioned alternative sciences, the goon politician Shukla himself seeks Upadhyay’s guidance and advice on what step to take next.
The murder drop
Shukla is vying for the CM’s seat and when he learns that Pandit is also conducting astrology business with the CM, he wishes to weed the priest out of the game.
Poor Pandit tries to talk his way out of the implications his inadvertent reveal of the business with the CM has imposed on him. Simply put, he tries to convince Shukla that he’s on his side, and not the CM.
Shukla asks his henchman Madan Singh to kill Pandit and sure enough, that’s what Madan does. On a bridge, he shoots Pandit before dropping his body into the river.
Rebirth & revenge
Bishnu was overhearing Shukla and Upadhyay during their discussion about the politicians’ future and whether he’ll get to the CM seat or not.
He followed Madan Singh to the bridge where he shot Pandit and then dumped his body into the river. However, Bishnu goes and saves the priest.
And so Pandit Upadhyay’s rebirth is initiated and together with Bishnu and a group of other men with vengeance, he plans and executes a grand plan utilizing all his decades-worth of expertise and knowledge.
