In Red Swan, Oh Wan-soo, a well-known philanthropist who married into the Hwain Group, faces threats against her life. Kim Ha-neul plays Oh Wan-soo.
Wan-soo is not only Korea’s goodwill ambassador but also the Director of the NOW Foundation, which helps those suffering from poverty and disease.
She is married to Kim Yong-kook of the Hwain Group, and while her marriage appears perfect to the world, it is anything but that.
The angel of charity
Wan-soo was born into a poor family. Her mother was a caddie at the golf club that Chairwoman Park, Wan-soo’s future mother-in-law, used to visit.
After Chairwoman Park fired Wan-soo’s mother, her mother stole two of the Chairwoman’s clubs and used them to teach golf to her daughter.
Wan-soo put a lot of effort into golfing; she even dropped out of school for it. Her efforts paid off, and she became a talented player.
She went to the US to play and eventually was inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame. Meanwhile, Wan-soo’s mother gambled away all the prize money she won.
As a result, Wan-soo cut all ties with her mother, unwilling to get involved with loan sharks, and only kept in touch with her brother.
Wan-soo then started donating all her money to charities, earning herself the nickname “angel of charity”.
Wan-soo’s unhappy marriage
While volunteering in Africa, Wan-soo met Yong-kook, the heir to the Hwain Group. He quickly fell in love with her and asked her to marry him.
Wan-soo quit golfing and married Yong-kook. They had a son, but he died in a skiing accident. Wan-soo then focused on running the NOW Foundation.
She worked more than her husband and became a popular public figure. Although she knew that Yong-kook was cheating on her, she never confronted him about it.
It turned out that Yong-kook had a son with his secretary even before he married Wan-soo, and he had continued his affair since then.
Yong-kook only married Wan-soo, the angel of charity, to save his own reputation. Now, there is no love lost between them.
Despite everything, Wan-soo stays married to him because her late father-in-law trusted her and had instructed her to do so.
Yong-kook is not the only person making Wan-soo’s life difficult. Her mother-in-law has been laundering money and bribing people through the NOW Foundation.
Wan-soo tries to keep her in-laws away from her foundation, which results in Chairwoman Park and Wan-soo becoming adversaries.
At the same time, an attempt is made on Wan-soo’s life in Manila. A man named Do-yoon comes to her rescue and later becomes her bodyguard.
Do-yoon suspects that Chairman Kim’s death is connected to the attack on Wan-soo. Unlike everyone else, he does not believe that the attack was orchestrated by terrorists.
However, Wan-soo does not believe Do-yoon and asks him to bring her evidence to prove his theory. While she does not trust him yet, she is certainly attracted to him.
Do-yoon, who treats Wan-soo with respect and care, could be the person who saves Wan-soo and becomes the partner her husband could never be.
