In Sex Education season 4, O is a student sex therapist on the campus of Cavendish College who becomes Otis’ rival. Thaddea Graham plays O.
O is far ahead of Otis when it comes to the business of sex therapists. She is well-known at Cavendish College, her clinic is mostly booked, and she even has an official website for her business.
Otis is surprised at how far ahead O is and likes to think that she has stolen his idea; he believes he is the original student sex therapist. O is so good that when she first meets Otis, she starts diagnosing him without him even realizing it.
O is also a huge fan of Jean’s work, and she even joins Jean on her radio show. O is also good at making her business appealing. She talks to her patients in comfortable rooms and offers them free cakes.
O’s past
O is asexual. She is forced to come out during a debate against Otis. When she joined the primary school, she had moved from Belfast and was a kid with a funny accent. She was also the only kid of color in her year.
Growing up, she started realizing that something is wrong. All the other girls were talking about kissing, boys, and crushes. She felt pressured to behave in a particular way.
She thought of becoming friends with the class’s most popular girls to make sure that no one notices that she doesn’t fit in. She slowly started studying everything about sex and relationships so that she could pretend to be like everyone else.
Keeping up this facade was really hard, and it was exhausting for her to not be herself. Even after joining college and setting up her clinic, she doesn’t feel like she is an ace.
O did try to make some real friends, but she couldn’t without giving herself away. Hence, she decided to be alone and focus on her passion: being a sex therapist. That was her safe space.
Ruby’s resentment toward O
Ruby is specifically interested in taking O down because they both share a past. O, who was known as Sarah Owen back then, and Ruby went to the same primary school together.
O had joined her new primary school during the school camp, and Ruby was asked to make her comfortable. They quickly became good friends, and Ruby finally found someone who won’t insult her for being poor.
At night, Ruby wets her bed. O finds out about it but promises not to tell anyone. However, during a game of Never Have I Ever, in order to make a name for herself, O exposes Ruby’s secret and embarrasses her in front of everyone.
At Cavendish College, Ruby approaches O, but O claims she has mistaken her for somebody else. Ruby hates how O is preaching kindness everywhere after what she did to her. Hence, Ruby shakes hands with Otis to take O down.
Once Maeve returns, Ruby quits as Otis’ campaign manager but doesn’t stop going after O. When nothing works, she leaks the video of O putting Ruby down, which turns the whole college against O.
O does admit that she feels bad for what she did to Ruby, but she did it to be like everyone else while she was struggling and suffocating inside.
O publicly apologizes to everyone online, except Ruby, for the video that went viral. She later apologizes to Ruby in person when they are looking for Cal.
Does O stay as Cavendish College’s therapist?
Cavendish College rejects both Otis and O on the day of electing a therapist. Otis, who is ridiculed as a lady hater because of his father, wins, but he hands the position to O, who is called a bully. Ruby gets up on the stage and introduces herself as the bedwetter who got bullied by O.
Ruby tells everyone that not everyone can be perfect, and since Cavendish College is trying to make the world a better place by being kind, the most Cavendish thing to do to O is give her a second chance.
After the event, O asks Otis to work with her. They make a good team, and she thinks it wouldn’t be bad to have a friend. Otis lets her know that he will think about it.
