In The Nurse, Niels Lundén is Pernille’s love interest, who later helps her expose Christina’s crimes. Peter Zandersen plays the role of Niels Lundén.
Pernille moves to Falster and starts working as a nurse at Nykøbing Falster Hospital because her daughter, Alberte, wants to live closer to her father, who is Pernille’s ex-boyfriend.
At her workplace, Pernille meets a man named Niels Lundén who is not only good at his job but also makes her laugh. It is Niels who later supports and helps her when she decides to do something brave.
The doctor and the clown
Pernille first sees Niels when he is competing in a sack race and then riding on a scooter during his night shift in the ER3 ward. Pernille assumes that he is the hospital clown, but she is told that he is in fact the best chief physician in the department who likes cracking bad jokes.
Pernille is not the only one who finds Niels attractive. She decides to talk to him when their department goes out clubbing together. However, much to her embarrassment, Pernille has to cut their conversation in half to puke.
Niels is not only a good doctor but also a good person. He does not let her feel embarrassed about it and offers her advice, as he is also not from this town and knows that it is not easy to settle down here.

He takes her on a date on a boat and tells her that, like Pernille, he also moved here because his ex-wife and son live here. Even though Nykøbing Falster Hospital is the worst hospital, he still likes his job because it keeps him busy.
He understands that people here need someone who will help them and not just see them as losers because of their lifestyle. Niels wants to be that doctor for the people here.
Through thick and thin
Niels and Pernille go on many dates, even though Pernille puked the first two times she met him outside work. When Pernille is told that he slept with Christina, she gets upset and confronts him about it.
He jokes about this also but assures her that it never happened. Pernille then shares her concerns about Christina with him, but Niels does not think there is anything wrong with Christina, as he believes everyone in the ER craves drama and that Christina is just passionate.
Pernille brings it up again when she thinks Christina is poisoning the patients. However, this time Niels dismisses her concerns as gossip. Pernille’s concerns sound insane, and he storms out of her place.
He has worked closely with Christina for a long time, and he does not like the fact that Pernille, a nurse fresh out of school, is suggesting that he has not noticed anything strange happening to the patients.
Even though he is initially angry, he looks into John’s death. He even consults another doctor, who acknowledges that the death seems unusual but does not take it seriously and blames it on the patient’s lifestyle, something that Niels never wanted to do.
He goes back to Pernille’s house and decides to support her in exposing Christina’s crimes. He is the one who tells her that they must catch her in the act or else it would be Pernille’s word against Christina’s, and no one would believe Pernille.
Pernille monitors Christina as Niels had asked her to do because it would have been suspicious if he kept going to the ER again and again. However, she keeps updating him all night long, and in the morning, he stands by her side as she calls the police.
In the end, when people at work start treating Pernille like a pariah, he is the one who supports her. Eventually, Pernille and Niels get married.
