Musashi Miyamoto is a well-traveled samurai who joins a group of samurai on their mission to capture their rebel brother. The character is voiced by Akio Ôtsuka.
Musashi Miyamoto is a samurai whose accomplishments as a swordsman are known all across the region. He was visiting a village when their spy returned with his limbs cut off after they were sent to report on one of their own.
He agrees to accompany them on their mission, and the first stop he makes is to retrieve a mystical object known as the ‘Oni Gauntlet’. The gauntlet holds the souls of the Oni who were massacred by the Genma, and it grants the wearer the Oni’s strength.
Musashi is incredibly clever and skilled with the blade, but his advancing age means that every time he uses the gauntlet, he is overcome with fatigue.
Musashi Miyamoto is modeled after legendary Japanese actor, Toshiro Mifune. Musashi is not a character who appears in the video game series and was created for the series.
Taking the lead
The band is being led by Kensuke Matsuki, another seasoned samurai who was responsible for training Lemon, the man they are going after. Musashi exposes him for being a traitor early on in their journey and disposes of him quite easily.
After eliminating two of the traitors from their midst, Musashi takes the lead of the traveling party as he is the most experienced and skilled among them.
As more members of their party lose their lives along the way, Musashi has to take on more responsibility. He is clear and concise with his orders, but he also has a softer side that comes out after Sayo joins them.
Facing old foes
To slow Musashi down, Lemon summons his greatest rivals from the dead. Musashi faces off against the Yoshioka brothers, who were beaten and killed by him 20 years ago.
They return with powers from the Genma, and it takes the strength of the Oni to defeat them. One of the samurai mentioned earlier that Musashi beat Sasaki Kojiro with just a wooden oar. Kojiro was a genius with the blade, and Lemon resurrected him too.
Kojiro isn’t interested in Lemon’s quest for world domination and only cares about beating Musashi to determine who is the better samurai. Musashi gives in to the Oni Gauntlet and becomes an Oni himself to match up to Sasaki’s power.
However, Sayo returns and reminds him what it means to be human and why he shouldn’t give in to the mystical powers. He returns to his human form and picks up a wooden oar to fight Sasaki.
While the victor in their battle is never shown, the gauntlet is returned to the temple, suggesting that Musashi ultimately triumphed.
