Meenakshi Sundareshwar summary and ending explained

Netflix’s ‘Meenakshi Sundareshwar’ is a romantic dramedy that features a newly-wed couple’s earnest urges to keep the spark in their marriage alive while being forced to stay in different cities.

The opening scene narrates the mythological story of the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati in Madurai and presents a glimpse of the holy Meenakshi Sundareshwar Temple dedicated to them. This introduces us to our main characters, Meenakshi (Sanya Malhotra) and Sundareshwar (Abhimanyu Dasani).

Sundar is an engineering graduate still looking for a job. Meenakshi is a BBA graduate and a devoted fan of Rajnikant. Both of their families are looking for a suitable partner for each other.

The duo meets when Sundar’s family drops in at Meenakshi’s house as a suitable groom due to a misunderstanding. Before the confusion gets cleared, the pair is already head over heels for each other.

Meenakshi’s grandfather (Shivkumar Subramaniam) points out that this must be their destiny referring to the holy myth. The marriage takes place and everyone is rejoicing when Sundar receives a job offer from a famous tech company in Bangalore.

Sundar departs and soon a long distance marriage begins. Due to various circumstances, Meenakshi is unable to shift with Sundar and though, initially she supports him, living away from her husband becomes tiresome and new problems arise.

Do the couple make it out of this taxing situation?

Meenakshi Sundareshwar ending explained in detail:

Criteria of being a Bachelor

Sundareshwar, being unable to find employment after graduating, was already under his father’s pressure. Sundar’s father (Purnendu Bhattacharya) strongly condemns his desire to work for another company because he wants his son to join their family’s own saree business. Sundar is trying hard to get a job within the deadline of 6 months, marked by his father.

Just after his marriage to Meenakshi, he luckily manages to secure an internship in a renowned tech company. That is a crucial start to his dream journey.

He can’t agree to give up on his dream and hence, leaves his newly-wed back home and moves to Bangalore. Meenakshi is attracted to Sundar because of his ambitious mindset and is overjoyed with his achievement. She strongly supports Sundar and helps him a lot to connect with his father.

Sundar becomes aware of the job criteria of being a bachelor when his boss talks about his strong refusal to hire married people. Sundar hides the fact that he is married to save his job. He urges Meenakshi to stay in Madurai until he secures a permanent position after the internship.

Enter Ananthan

Meenakshi suddenly comes across her college friend and ex-boyfriend, Ananthan (Varun Shashi Rao). Sundar’s absence urges Meenakshi to hang out more with him who comforts her like a friend and listens to her personal grievances.

Ananthan requests Meenakshi to help him revive his father’s tea estate as it is incurring huge losses. Sundar’s family disapproves of her desire to work for Ananthan and even questions their relationship.

Meenakshi fumes in anger at the invalid judgement made by her in-laws as she is honest to her marriage. She moves to her paternal house after the whole argument.

Meenakshi secures another job at a small consultancy firm and excitedly tells her in-laws about it. Sundar’s father urges her to not take up the position because she will soon move to Bangalore. He insists she teaches tuitions to his grandson instead. Meenakshi has nothing much to do the whole day and hence, Sundar’s busy schedule hit her a lot.

‘Together’

Sundar’s internship project is to build a new application that would help him secure a permanent position at the organization if successful. His concept is inspired by his married life in which he is often confused about how to communicate or cheer Meenakshi up.

The app ‘Together’ is a one-stop solution to all his woes as it would help analyse someone’s emotion upon collecting various data sets related to the emoticons and types of words used in chats, their conversation duration, and their working schedule.

Sundar builds it to understand Meenakshi better and to provide her emotional support even when he is far away. He wants to face all sorts of emotional hurdles by always staying by her side.
