The recent episode of Citadel finally revealed the secrets of Mason and Nadia’s past that Mason does not remember and Nadia chose to keep to herself.
When a Citadel agent joined hands with Manticore to take Citadel down, thousands of Citadel agents were killed around the world. Mason and Nadia were also attacked, but they managed to survive.
However, they were backstopped, which means that their memories were erased. Mason and Nadia forgot everything about their lives and lived as different people until Bernard found Mason eight years later.
Mason’s vial that could have reactivated his memories gets destroyed, but he manages to find Nadia and give her the vial with her name. Nadia regains her memories but decides not to tell Mason much about their past, as he now has a family.
Protecting the one you love
Mason meets Nadia when he is on a mission. He has to steal a dangerous virus from an impenetrable fortress in the Alborz Mountains, and Nadia, who is a new Tier-One spy, is assigned to assist him.
Nadia’s mother was a Citadel spy, so Nadia also became one. After five years of working at Citadel, she is asked to join Tier-One, Citadel’s most elite spies. As Tier-One agents, Nadia and Mason are made partners.
Their relationship does not stay strictly professional; they start sleeping together and fall in love. Eventually, he even asks her to marry him, and she accepts the proposal.
Nadia then brings Celeste to the team, who had worked with Nadia before and even saved her life once. Celeste is sent undercover to get intel on the Oz Key, a dangerous device created by Anders Silje. When the ops team brings Celeste back, the Oz Key is nowhere to be found.
Mason suspects that Nadia is betraying Citadel, as she gave a cloaked order to the chief of the ops team to give her the Oz Key secretly, but since Mason is in love with her, he puts the blame on Celeste and makes her take the fall for Nadia.
The loss of trust
When Nadia discovers that Mason backstopped Celeste, she tells him that she took the Oz Key because she wanted to destroy it, not because she is a double agent. She no longer trusts Mason and breaks up with him.
Later, she finds out that she is pregnant with his child, but she does not think that he deserves to know about her pregnancy after what he has done.
She seeks her father’s help, who is a terrorist named Rahi Gambhir. He helps her get away from Citadel without anyone finding out about it. Nadia lives in Valencia off-grid with her father and gives birth to her daughter, Asha.
Mason finds out where Nadia is a year after her disappearance, and Grace, their director, contacts her. Nadia is asked to go to Italy on a mission, and Nadia agrees because she now wants to tell Mason about Asha.
However, when Nadia and Mason meet again, she does not get the chance to tell him anything, as they are attacked by Manticore agents and are backstopped soon after.
Eight years later, when Mason questions her about their relationship, Nadia tells him that they dated briefly and that it was nothing serious. It is only when they work together to save Carter Spence that the truth unravels.
