In Forgotten Love, Rafał meets his daughter, Marysia Wilczur, years after losing his memory, but neither of them recognizes the other. Maria Kowalska plays Marysia.
Professor Rafał Wilczur loves his daughter Maria Jolanta Wilczur, who is called Marysia, more than anyone. However, at a very young age, Marysia is separated from her father, as her mother leaves him to live with the man she loves.
As Marysia grows up with her mother and stepfather, she thinks of him as her father. When Marysia’s mother passes away, she believes that she is an orphan with no relatives. However, she does not know that her biological father is still alive.
Marysia and Leszek’s relationship
After her mother’s death, Marysia moves to Radoliszki, where her childhood best friend, Michał, lives. She aims to get a job to earn enough money to be able to study medicine in Warsaw because her mother made her promise that she would go to college.
Marysia is a clever woman, so she is able to get a job at the local tavern. Marysia’s beauty and her grace get the attention of many young men, including Count Leszek. Initially, Leszek only wants to sleep with her and tries to make a wager on that.
Since Marysia overhears him talking about the wager, she does not give him the time of day. Marysia is bold, so when her friend gets injured while working in a mill owned by Leszek’s family, she storms into their house to demand that they help her friend.
It is Leszek who helps her. He keeps pursuing her after that incident, and eventually, Marysia falls in love with him. When Leszek proves to Marysia that he is ready to leave everything for her and that he respects her work, Leszek and Marysia get engaged.
Sweet reunions
Leszek and Marysia’s happiness does not last long, as a man, who gets rejected by Marysia, meddles with the brakes of Leszek’s bike, resulting in Marysia and Leszek getting into an accident. Leszek’s family refuses to pay for Marysia’s treatment and leaves her to die.
Although Rafał and Marysia did not recognize each other when they met in Radoliszki, Rafał feels fatherly love for her and cares about her. He has no choice but to operate on Marysia. He saves her life, knowing that this might land him in prison.
Rafał and Zofia look after Marysia and help her recover. During this time, Marysia grows close to Rafał. She is also heartbroken, as Leszek, who thinks that Marysia is dead, does not respond to any of her letters.
Marysia finally gives up and sends Leszek the ring that he had given her, which leads to Leszek finding out that Marysia is alive. However, before he can reunite with her, his mother meets Marysia and asks her to stay away from her son.
Marysia cannot be bribed, but she can be scared. When Leszek’s mother threatens to report Rafał for stealing surgical equipment and performing surgery, Marysia decides to sacrifice her love for Leszek in order to save the man who risked everything for her.
She leaves the village and goes to Warsaw, but Leszek finds her and brings her back home. He also tells Marysia that her biological father was a famous brain surgeon and that his body was never found. This leads to Marysia realizing that Rafał, the man who saved her life, is her father.
This time, Marysia saves him by testifying and proving him innocent in court. She reunites with her father and gets married to Leszek on the day Rafał gets married to Zofia. In the end, Marysia not only gets her fiancé back but also her father.
