Maria: Castlevania: Nocturne character explained

Maria is a sorceress and a revolutionary in Castlevania: Nocturne. She is like a sister to Richter and fights vampires with him. Pixie Davies voices Maria.

Maria and Richter have known each other since they were children. As they were raised by Tera, Maria’s mother, they are almost like siblings. The two of them fight vampires and other creatures side by side.

Maria is a sorceress and can conjure magical creatures from the Otherworld. These creatures fight for Maria, and she values them. She also believes in the ideals of the French Revolution and spreads her revolutionary ideas among the masses.

Maria understands that the wealth of the aristocrats comes from the oppression of the poor, which makes her passionate about the revolution. She does not have much respect for people like the Abbot, who oppose the revolution and support the natural order.

Painful sacrifices

When Maria and Richter come to know about the rise of the Vampire Messiah, they work with Annette and Edouard to stop the Messiah before it is too late. Soon after, they find out that the Abbot is the Forgemaster and that he is raising an army of night creatures to crush the revolution with Erzsebet.

The Abbot then pays Tera and Maria a visit, and Maria finds out that her father is not dead. The Abbot is her father, and her mother has been lying to her for years. Maria is hurt by the fact that her father has ignored her all her life.

Maria and the Abbot do not see eye to eye. While she is a revolutionary, he seeks to crush the revolution, even if it means making deals with demons. Maria is a sorceress and her father is a religious man who does not approve of her magic.

Despite their differences, he loves her and asks her to join him, but Maria refuses. Maria, her mother, and her friends plan to attack the abbey and destroy the forging machine to stop the Messiah. However, Maria does not want her father to get hurt, so she goes to warn him.

This time, she asks him to join her and refuses to leave without him. She gives him a chance to be her father, but the Abbot takes this opportunity to kidnap her. He intends to kill her to seal his alliance with Erzsebet, but Tera and Maria’s friends rescue her in time. Maria, Tera, and their group then fight the Abbot and his night creatures.

To save Maria from Erzsebet, Tera sacrifices herself. Unlike the Abbot’s sacrifice, Tera’s sacrifice is born out of love. As Maria and her friends are not strong enough to save Tera, she is turned into a vampire, and Maria loses the one parent who has been there for her all her life.
