Li Yueh is a gangster who falls in love with Yu-sen while accompanying him to poker games. In Let’s Talk About CHU, Wu Chien-ho plays Li Yueh.
Li Yueh runs an underground poker club. One of his regular patrons, Yu-sen, captures his attention by effortlessly winning games without fully concentrating.
Yueh approaches him and offers to take him to high-stakes games at places where Yu-sen cannot gain entry on his own.
Yueh’s brash and loud demeanor initially puts off Yu-sen, and he does not accept the offer until he is left with no choice.
Falling for Yu-sen
When Yu-sen gets drunk and loses NT$900,000, he has to find a way to pay Yueh back. To do that, Yu-sen agrees to play high-stakes underground poker.
Yueh accompanies him and gets to take 80% of all Yu-sen’s winnings. Yueh does not leave Yu-sen’s side and makes sure that he stays sober.
During one of the games, when a man keeps cheating, Yueh accuses him without evidence, resulting in both himself and Yu-sen getting beaten up.
Initially, Yu-sen is angry with him, but he eventually realizes that Yueh was trying to look out for him in his own way. From then on, the two start developing a bond.
As they face danger together and savor the thrill of various victories, they realize they are attracted to each other and end up hooking up.
However, Yueh asks Yu-sen not to tell anyone about them, as Yueh’s sexuality is not known to everybody.
Yueh then leaves for his hometown to care for his sick grandmother without telling Yu-sen anything about it.
When Yu-sen unexpectedly shows up looking for him, Yueh is pleasantly surprised and even introduces Yu-sen to his grandmother. This brings them even closer, and they fall in love.
Yueh has been trying to save so much money because his grandmother is now getting chemotherapy. He promises to pay Yu-sen his share of the winnings later.
However, Yueh never gets to use that money, as his grandmother passes away, and it is Yu-sen who helps him cope with the grief.
Starting over
Yueh has an aunt, but he does not have a good relationship with her. It is revealed that when Yueh was young, his aunt outed him to his father.
This resulted in Yueh’s father beating him up. The situation got out of hand when his grandmother tried to stop her father.
Yueh’s father pushed her away, which led to Yueh fighting back to protect her. His father ended up hitting his head and died after a few days in the hospital.
After fighting with Yu-sen for bringing up his aunt, Yueh shares with him the details of what happened with his father.
He eventually allows his aunt to attend his grandmother’s funeral. Following that, Yueh returns to Taipei with Yu-sen.
Yueh no longer wants to hide the fact that they are together. He also helps Yu-sen bring his father home and gives him the money he had saved for his grandmother.
Yueh then decides to turn over a new leaf. He does not wish to be a criminal anymore, so he turns himself in, and Yu-sen does not give up on Yueh or their relationship.
