Len is a new man in Nirmala’s life who is very cheerful but raises some suspicions in Kamala. The character is portrayed by Jeff Garlin.
One day when Kamala visits home unannounced, Nirmala is caught unawares and tries to usher her into another room but Kamala notices that something is off.
Nirmala accepts that there’s no use hiding and calls out the man hiding in the kitchen. She introduces him as Len, her white boyfriend. She is ashamed that she’s got another partner and moving on from her late husband, especially with someone of a different nationality.
Len comes off as a very nice man who knows his way around a kitchen he proceeds to visit Nirmala regularly, often preparing something in the kitchen.
Cause for suspicion
Kamala gets cataract surgery one day and when she returns home, Nirmala leaves her to rest on the couch while she goes out to get some groceries. When Kamala wakes up, she is greeted by Len who offers to keep her company till her eyesight returns and she recovers.
While she’s still suffering the effects of her surgery, Kamala hears Len talking to a woman with a very specific accent but when she asks him if someone else was there, he denies it.
She assumes it was the effect of the anesthesia but later when she’s sitting with her boss at a yogurt place, she sees Len talking to the same woman Kamala had heard before.
Nirmala is constantly buying gifts for Len but Kamala suspects that he is a conman who is involved in some sort of money-making scheme with the strange woman. Nirmala says he doesn’t need to scam for money because she’s extremely wealthy.
When Len proposes to Nirmala, Kamala worries that he must be marrying her for her money and begins following Len around to catch him red-handed.
During Nirmala’s birthday dinner, Kamala lures the woman to their house after seeing that her contact is saved under the name Baby on Len’s phone. However, her suspicions come crashing down when Baby finally arrives.
Nirmala tells her family that Baby is a real estate agent helping them buy a holiday condo for the entire family and it was supposed to be a surprise for them. Len tells Kamala that he truly cares for Nirmala and wouldn’t do anything to hurt her or her family.
They have a wonderful ceremony on the same week that Devi is leaving for college as they begin their new union.
