Lee Woo-jin: Hierarchy character explained

Lee Woo-jin is one of the few people who know the truth about In-han’s death. In Hierarchy, Lee Won-jeong plays Woo-jin.

Woo-jin is friends with Ri-an, Jae-i, and He-ra. Together, the four of them are considered the royalty of Jooshin High.

Woo-jin enjoys a high status at school because he is the son of an assemblyman who is running for president.

While Ri-an and He-ra, directly or indirectly, use their status to bully scholarship students, Woo-jin stays out of it.

However, Woo-jin has his own secrets. There is evidence that links his family to In-han’s death.

Siding with He-ra

Woo-jin is a good friend, offering his support whenever his friends need it. After Jae-i returns from the US, Woo-jin’s friend group falls apart.

As the only one not in conflict with any of his friends, his friendship with all of them remains unchanged.

Everyone, except He-ra, knows that Woo-jin has feelings for her. However, since He-ra likes Ri-an, Woo-jin never confesses his feelings to her and opts for a casual relationship with their teacher, Ms. Han, instead.

Jae-i, who has figured out that Woo-jin is dating Ms. Han, advises him to choose between He-ra and Ms. Han, leading to Woo-jin breaking up with Ms. Han.

Soon after, He-ra forces Woo-jin to pick a side when she has a fight with Ri-an and Jae-i. Woo-jin picks He-ra’s side, even though he does not think she is in the right.

Woo-jin promises to seek revenge against Jae-i on He-ra’s behalf

He-ra has sworn revenge on Jae-i, so Woo-jin uses the evidence his parents found of Jae-i’s pregnancy against her.

He shows it to Jae-i’s father and threatens to leak it to the press if he does not send her to New York and ensure that she never returns.

Woo-jin later regrets betraying Jae-i when he realizes that He-ra had only talked about revenge in the heat of the moment.

Additionally, Jae-i is the one who rescues He-ra’s family from financial ruin. However, it is too late for Woo-jin to rectify his mistake.

He-ra rebukes Woo-jin but advises him not to confess the truth to Ri-an and Jae-i, as it would not do any good and further damage their friendship.

Exposing the truth

Kang Ha goes to the police with all the evidence he has against the bullies at school. There is no evidence against Woo-jin because of his lack of involvement.

However, Woo-jin has been keeping secrets about In-han’s death. It was Woo-jin’s birthday the night In-han died.

In-han had attended Woo-jin’s birthday party. He was running from the bullies when he stumbled upon Woo-jin and Ms. Han kissing.

Ms. Han went after In-han and ended up killing him with Woo-jin’s car, which was registered under Woo-jin’s father’s name.

Woo-jin covered up the crime for the sake of his father’s career. Later, he found a pen that had a camera attached, which had caught the whole accident, in the car.

As he cannot undo his betrayal of Jae-i, Woo-jin decides to give Jae-i, who blames herself for not standing up for In-han, the camera to seek justice for In-han.

As Woo-jin had expected, when the truth comes out, Woo-jin’s father’s name gets linked to the case, derailing his presidential campaign.
