Lee Mi-jin: Miss Night and Day character explained

In Miss Night and Day, Lee Mi-jin, the protagonist, switches between two bodies every morning and evening. Jung Eun-ji plays Lee Mi-jin.

Lee Mi-jin is a hard-working woman who has been trying to pass the local civil service exam for the past eight years.

While Mi-jin consistently passes the exam, she fails the interview every time. As she grows older, her chances of becoming a civil servant dwindle.

Mi-jin stubbornly continues studying for the exam while juggling multiple part-time jobs. However, all she receives in return is disappointment.

Mi-jin’s two bodies

Although Mi-jin once again fails the job interview, her parents mistakenly believe that she has become a civil servant.

Unwilling to disappoint them, Mi-jin seeks help from a stranger who has promised to get her a government job through a recommendation system.

Unaware that the man is a scammer, Mi-jin gives him her family’s emergency funds and her bankbook. She realizes her mistake only after paying him.

That night, feeling dejected, Mi-jin drinks and burns all her books. After seeing a stray cat jump into a well, she jumps in to save the cat.

In that moment, Mi-jin wishes to be someone else, and her wish comes true: she wakes up the next morning in the body of a woman in her fifties.

Mi-jin tries to explain to her parents that she has transformed into an older woman, but they do not believe her. Later, she returns to her original body and decides to keep her transformation a secret.

Mi-jin then realizes that her body changes according to the time of day. During the day, she is a woman in her fifties, but as night falls, she returns to her own body.

Mi-jin gets a job

Mi-jin tries to find a cure for her condition, but nothing works. She then decides to take advantage of her situation when she sees an advertisement for a senior citizens’ internship.

Mi-jin adopts the identity of her aunt, Lim Sun, who has been missing for years, and applies for the internship.

She gets selected and begins working as a janitor at Seohan District Prosecutors’ Office, where she meets Prosecutor Gye Ji-ung, who had previously saved her from the scammer.

Ji-ung continues meeting with Mi-jin to discuss details of a missing persons case, as Mi-jin has encountered the man behind the disappearances.

Ji-ung does not recognize her at work because her body is that of an older woman. When Mi-jin, posing as Lim Sun, saves a celebrity from an acid attack, she receives a promotion.

Ji-ung, who is known for being difficult to work with, makes his office aide quit, resulting in Lim Sun being promoted to Ji-ung’s office aide.

Believing that an older woman would struggle to keep up with his work, Ji-ung assigns her challenging tasks to force her to resign.

However, Mi-jin’s experience from her part-time jobs enables her to complete these tasks efficiently. Ji-ung then has no choice but to allow Lim Sun to continue working as his aide.

As Mi-jin spends more time with Ji-ung, both as herself and as Lim Sun, she finds herself developing feelings for him.

However, assisting Ji-ung puts Mi-jin in danger, as she becomes the target of the man responsible for the disappearances.
