Detective Kuramochi: Tokyo Swindlers character explained

After her partner’s death, Kuramochi becomes determined to continue his work and catch Harrison. In Tokyo Swindlers, Elaiza Ikeda plays Detective Kuramochi.

Kuramochi aims to become a First Investigation Division detective one day, but to get there, she must first prove herself in the Second Investigation Division.

A senior detective named Shimomura is tasked with taking her under his wing and showing her the ropes. Despite their age differences, they surprisingly get along well.

Kuramochi and Shimomura develop a bond and work well together, but their partnership comes to an end when Shimomura is murdered.

Working with Shimomura

Shimomura has been investigating land swindlers for years. When the higher-ups decide to downsize the investigation, Shimomura is the only one left working on Harrison’s fraud cases.

Then, Kuramochi becomes his partner and gets involved in the investigation. Kuramochi and Shimomura value each other’s insights despite their differing approaches.

While Shimomura prefers sticking to their existing leads, Kuramochi explores every possibility, no matter how inconsequential it seems, to ensure that nothing is overlooked.

Kuramochi questions Takumi’s motives for becoming a land swindler. She decides to find Takumi by visiting his family’s graves, hoping that he will show up on their death anniversary.

Meanwhile, Shimomura investigates Abhiru Holdings and discovers Harrison’s plans, but he never gets to tell Kuramochi about it, as he is murdered by Harrison.

Harrison makes Shimomura’s death look like an accident, but Kuramochi suspects that he was forced to take his own life.

Despite the police superintendent, who is a corrupt officer, asking her to drop the case, Kuramochi continues investigating her partner’s death and his unsolved case.

Kuramochi’s quest to bring Harrison to justice

Kuramochi meets Shimomura’s wife, who shares her suspicions about the suicide note being fake. Shimomura’s wife trusts only Kuramochi with her husband’s last findings.

In addition, Shimomura had left his wife the contact number of a man and asked her to contact him if he died suspiciously. His wife now shares the contact with Kuramochi.

The contact turns out to be an underground journalist whose life Shimomura had saved in the past. Since then, Shimomura looked out for him in exchange for information.

The journalist also believes that Shimomura was murdered, and he teams up with Kuramochi to bring Shimomura’s killer to justice.

Kuramochi also manages to find Takumi by waiting for him near his family’s graves on their death anniversary. She appeals to him to stop ruining the lives of innocent people.

When that does not work, she puts a tracker on his car without him noticing. With the help of the tracker, Kuramochi locates Takumi’s house.

She then reveals to Takumi the truth about Harrison’s involvement in scamming his father, as uncovered by the journalist, and provides him with evidence.

Kuramochi once again pleads with Takumi to change sides. This time, her efforts bear fruit: Takumi contacts her, now willing to testify against Harrison.

Kuramochi goes to arrest Harrison, but as she tries to save Takumi from a blast caused by Harrison, she ends up giving Harrison the opportunity to escape.

Kuramochi fails to stop the Sekiyo House fraud or arrest Harrison, but she gets Takumi to collaborate with the police in catching Harrison. She plans to continue Shimomura’s work.
