In Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, when Cate, May, and Keiko return home from Hollow Earth, they find themselves on Skull Island, where another alpha titan resides.
Cate, May, and Shaw seemingly spend a day in Hollow Earth and find a young Keiko, who has been living here since 1959, but for her, it has only been 57 days.
When Cate, May, and Keiko, with Shaw not making it, return to Earth, they learn that two years have passed by.
A lot has changed. Tim, Kentaro, and Hiroshi expected their arrival and have made arrangements accordingly, but not with the help of Monarch; it’s Apex Cybernetics who have helped them.
They are all on Skull Island. They are asked to come inside the moment what sounds like a Titan alarm starts ringing.
The warehouses of Apex Cybernetics read: Apex Skull Island Research Station. The thumping of the foot hints at the arrival of a Titan who is none other than Kong.
Apex and Kong’s future
As the warehouse suggests, Apex is studying Skull Island and Kong, just like Monarch was. Apex Cybernetics originally went by the name Applied Experimental Technologies.
In Godzilla vs. Kong, Walter Simmons, the CEO of Apex, reveals that he has been fascinated by Titans since Godzilla revealed himself to the world in 2014.
That fascination encouraged him to study Titans, with the purpose of killing Godzilla and making humans the sole dominant species again.
In the future, Kong becomes important to Apex as he helps them find a way to enter Hollow Earth. However, even that’s only possible because of Dr. Ilene Andrews and Jia, who have been dealing with Kong for 10 years.
Since Monarch: Legacy of Monsters takes place in 2015 and makes a time jump to two years in the future, Cate, May, and Keiko’s return happens before Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
