Plot summary:
Sawako and Kazehaya have a wonderful time on their first date together. Sawako gives him the gifts she had wanted to give him during Christmas and Valentine’s Day.
She gives Chizuru and Ayane the details of their date but is also very excited and unsure of what to do in this new situation.
Her friends give her advice even though neither of them is dating anyone. Chizuru is close to Ryu but she doesn’t think of him in that way.
Kento takes an interest in Ayane and is always bothering her at school. Sawako and Kazehaya meet each other’s families during the summer vacations.
They are equally adored by both sets of parents and they feel their bond getting stronger. Excitement builds within the class for their trip to Osaka.
A student named Mogi from class 2-B asks Ayane out and she agrees to everyone’s surprise.
She realizes that she has never had strong feelings for anyone that she’s dated and wonders if this time it will finally happen.
During the trip, a girl asks Ryu out but he declines and admits that he likes someone. Only Sawako knows that he likes Chizuru, but Chizuru gets angry with Ryu.
She cares for him like a sibling and is mad at him for not sharing his secret with her, unaware that he likes her.
Ayane goes out with Mogi a few times and they even kiss, but she doesn’t develop any feelings for him and breaks up with him.
Kento finds her and comforts her as she breaks down because she is worried that she will never find anyone to love.
Kazehaya and Sawako almost kiss but Ayane walks in at the wrong moment. Kazehaya feels embarrassed and overthinks the entire situation, driving a wedge between them.
Kento continues to be friendly towards Ayane but she finds it annoying. She does believe that he is a good person but she has very little self-worth.
Ryu finally confesses to Chizuru that he likes her, and this makes things awkward between them.
She thinks of their lives growing up, and how they spent important moments together. They went through the passing of Ryu’s mother together, and that was significant.
Chizuru is unsure of how to feel about Ryu because she always considered him a brother and was previously in love with his brother Toru.
He knows that she didn’t have the same feelings as him, but he wanted to get that off his chest and feel lighter about the whole situation.
Ever since the failed kiss, Kazehaya hasn’t been as warm with Sawako as he usually is. Many of their close friends notice that there is some tension, but they don’t communicate well enough.
Christmas time approaches and Kazehaya plans a party for the class. Sawako gets permission from her dad to attend it this year, and she is excited.
Kento attends the party too so that he can confess to Ayane. He talks to Kazehaya to learn more about her and what she might like.
Ryu and Chizuru speak about their emotions and how they truly feel about each other. It goes some way towards mending their relationship and giving them a chance to move forward.
During the party, Kazehaya is busy since he organized the whole thing so he is unable to spend much time with Sawako.
Chizuru gets a gift specifically for Ryu but when Joe gets it during the gift exchange, she grabs it out of his hand.
She runs outside but Ryu goes after her and grabs her hand. They exchange gifts and then spend time with each other.
Kento gets a gift for Ayane but Joe steps on it so he takes it outside to check if it is still alright.
It was a bouquet of red roses, and it was mostly ruined. While he’s outside, he runs into Mogi and asks him about his breakup with Ayane.
Pin arrives there and runs into Sawako. He starts imparting his wisdom to her when they spot Kento and Mogi.
Kento doesn’t like the way Mogi speaks about Ayane so he punches him. Sawako goes to call Ayane while Pin helps Kento and Mogi resolve things.
Kento walks away after Ayane shows up, and Mogi apologizes to her for how he treated her. Ayane then goes after Kento and he tells her that he loves her deeply.
They embrace and Ayane is in tears after being overwhelmed with her emotions. Sawako still doesn’t get a chance to spend time with Kazehaya as Pin shuts down the party.
Ending explained:
Crossed wires
Kento walks Ayane home, while Ryu and Chizuru head to his ramen shop with Pin following them.
Kazehaya walks home with Sawako and she remembers all the advice other people gave her. She confronts him about lying to her and believes he doesn’t like her anymore.
He kisses her and then tells her that he loves her and apologizes for making her feel lonely and giving her the wrong idea.
Her father calls and Kazehaya asks him if they can spend some more time beyond her curfew.
They sit down for coffee and talk to each other about whatever is going on in their heads. This clears up all of their doubts and they feel closer than ever.
Sharing developments
On Christmas Day, Sawako exchanges gifts with her parents and after her dad leaves for work, she calls Chizuru and Ayane home.
They sit down in her room and talk about everything that happened the previous night. Sawako tells them how she had doubts about her relationship but it was fixed now.
She even includes the communication breakdown that led to those doubts. After that, Ayane admits that she and Kento are dating.
She explains how those feelings came to be and everything that led up to that moment. Finally, Chizuru reveals what happened at the party between her and Ryu.
She even shows them the preserved flower that he gifted her because it reminded him of her.
Holiday celebrations
Sawako’s mother enjoys sitting down with them for “girl talk” and then suggests having dinner together at their house.
She also asks them to invite their boyfriends and soon after, Kazehaya, Ryu, and Kento show up.
Everyone has fun and waits for Sawako’s father to surprise him at the door. He is taken aback by the number of people at his house but eventually accepts it.
They all have a jolly good time and as they leave, Sawako’s father says that they are welcome in his house anytime.
While Sawako goes to bed, her parents go through her childhood pictures and marvel over how much she has grown.
They are pleased to see her happy in life and have little to worry about her. Sawako shares those feelings of joy because she is surrounded by people she loves.
