In the second season of D.P., Kim Ru-ri deserts the military after opening fire on his peers. Moon Sang-Hoon plays the role of Kim Ru-ri.
Kim Ru-ri was Suk-bong’s friend. The two men bonded over reading comic books and drawing webtoons. Later, they enlisted in the military together for their mandatory service and continued being close friends.
However, Ru-ri witnessed his friend, who was bullied by other soldiers, change gradually. Like Suk-bong, Ru-ri is also bullied. The other soldiers call him names, insult his mother, and even subject him to physical abuse. The torment never ends.
So when Ru-ri hears the news of Suk-bong’s suicide attempt and another soldier sprays bug repellent in his face at that very moment, Ru-ri thinks he should do something. A dazed Ru-ri opens fire on his fellow soldiers in the barracks.
A victim of the system
After the mass shooting, which injured eleven soldiers and killed two, Ru-ri runs away with a gun as well as grenades. As he is an armed deserter, the military needs to find him and bring him back as soon as possible.
When the news of the mass shooting gets out, Seo Eun, the lead investigator, portrays him as a dangerous criminal without talking about what made him act the way that he did. Seo Eun claims that they will try to capture Ru-ri alive but kill him if necessary.
However, the truth is that General Gu wants him dead. Seo Eun makes sure that the public will only see him as a killer by releasing pictures of the crime scene. As a result, his mother’s restaurant is trashed, and she is harassed by the families of the victims of the mass shooting.
A frustrated Ru-ri films himself to tell the world his side of the story. He claims that he only shot the others because he thought that they would kill him first. He was bullied by them mercilessly, and the commanding officer did nothing to stop them, so he shot the others in self-defense.

To get Ru-ri to return, Seo Eun gets the media to show his mother getting harassed on television. As expected, Ru-ri comes to meet his mother, but he comes with a grenade. He is immediately surrounded by dozens of soldiers who are ready to open fire.
Ho-yeol and Jun-ho are the only ones who try to get him to surrender, but Ru-ri is not in the state to see reason. Finally, his mother intervenes, and he listens to her. She stops him from killing himself and other people around him with the grenade.
General Gu no longer has a reason to kill him, as he is not a threat anymore. Ru-ri is then arrested. Later, when Seo Eun goes to visit him in prison, she realizes that everyone, including Ru-ri himself, blames Ru-ri for everything that happened. No one holds the system responsible for turning a man like Ru-ri into a killer.
Eventually, General Gu prevents Ru-ri from testifying in court. While he does not get to testify about what was done to him, he finds out that one of the two men he killed could have been saved if not for the delay caused by the higher-ups.
Ru-ri breaks down when this truth is revealed. He is escorted out of the court, and on his way out, he apologizes to the families of the victims and asks his mother not to worry too much.
