In True Detective: Night Country, Kate McKittrick is the owner of Silver Sky Mining and the ice skating rink in Ennis.
Kate McKittrick is a controversial figure in the town of Ennis. She owns the mine that employs half of the population of Ennis.
Kate claims she loves this town, and hence, she is ready to let Liz move the bodies of Tsalal men to the rink that she owns.
Annie vs. Silver Sky Mining
Kate McKittrick’s name is first mentioned in the first episode of True Detective: Night Country.
It surprises Peter when he learns that Navarro went as far as to confront Kate to solve Annie’s case.
Before her death, Annie was protesting against Kate’s mine and had made enemies out of many people.
Almost half of Ennis hated Annie. Navarro took the case personally and knocked on the wrong doors, including that of Kate McKittrick.
Some people in Ennis are protesting against the mine again, as the lives of those near it are being affected. These people are demanding fresh water and clear skies.
In the fifth episode of True Detective: Night Country, Peter finds out that Tuttle United, the company connected to the NGO that funds Tsalal, has deals with the founding partner of Silver Sky Mining.
Liz concludes that Kate’s mine bankrolls Tsalal, while Tsalal pushes bogus pollution numbers for them.
Kate’s hand in Annie’s death
Kate attempts to stop Liz from further investigating the Tsalal men’s case by presenting the reports that suggest these men died due to a weather event.
Connelly further threatens Liz with the information he has on the Wheeler case. Kate knows Liz isn’t someone who will give up so easily. That’s when she meets Hank.
During her conversation with Hank, it is revealed that they killed Annie. Hank was paid a good amount for keeping this a secret and promised a promotion to chief of police.
He did receive money, but he has yet to become chief. Kate doesn’t want Liz to find the cave where Annie was killed.
Kate tasks Hank to stop her and promises him the position he desires again.
