Kang-ho’s accident in The Good Bad Mother explained

In The Good Bad Mother, after Kang-ho gets his adoption papers signed by Young-soon, he meets with an accident that changes his life.

When Assemblyman Oh refuses to let Kang-ho marry his daughter, Ha-young, Kang-ho uses evidence that could cost him the upcoming presidential elections to get him to agree to the match.

He also asks Chairman Song to adopt him so that Assemblyman Oh would not be able to oppose the match because of their difference in social standings. However, when everything works out as he had planned, he gets into an accident that turns his life upside down.

The truth

When Kang-ho and Ha-young return from Kang-ho’s village, Kang-ho is visibly upset, as he has just cut ties with his mother, Young-soon. Ha-young’s comments on Young-soon’s food further infuriate him.

Seeing his state, Ha-young offers to drive the car, and Kang-ho agrees. He soon falls asleep. Then, Ha-young stops the car and gets out of it to get her favorite scarf that blew out of the window. At that moment, a speeding truck hits the car while Kang-ho is still inside.

The two are taken to the hospital, and it is revealed there that Assemblyman Oh had planned the whole thing because he thinks that Kang-ho plans to get revenge for his father’s death. He praises Ha-young for playing her part well.

Ha-young, who claimed to be in love with Kang-ho and was going to marry him, accompanied him to the village because she had an important role to play in her father’s scheme.

She added sleeping pills to Kang-ho’s water and drugged him. She deliberately threw her scarf out of the window once he was asleep, and that was when the truck driver, who was hired by her father, hit Kang-ho’s car.

When Chairman Song’s men fail to find the driver who hit Kang-ho’s car, he suspects that this accident was planned. The driver cannot be identified, as he was driving a burner vehicle, that is, the vehicle was stolen to hit Kang-ho’s car.

The vehicle was set on fire after the accident, and no fingerprints were found. Furthermore, the sole witness, the driver, Mr. Yang, also kills himself later on.

However, Chairman Song manages to contact Mr. Yang’s wife, who has a suicide note written by her husband that mentions everything that he was asked to do by Assemblyman Oh. He also gets his hands on the prescription for sleeping pills that Ha-young got a day before the accident.

The aftermath

Kang-ho miraculously survives that accident, but the doctors warn Young-soon that he will not be the same. When Kang-ho wakes up, he is paralyzed from the neck down, but the doctors believe that he might be able to walk again with treatment and rehabilitation.

Due to the injury to his head, he loses most of his memories and only retains the ones from his childhood. He also loses his cognitive ability and goes back to being a child.

He is now like a seven-year-old boy, so he gets along with Mi-joo’s twins. Young-soon hopes that he will be able to get back to his old life one day. Until then, she allows him to be a child for the first time in his life.

On the other hand, Ha-young is traumatized after the accident. She did what her father asked her to do, but it takes a toll on her. She gets scared when she hears that Kang-ho survived the accident.

The memory of the accident still haunts her. She sees the scarf that she wore that day and breaks down. Her father got what he wanted, but the price was paid by Ha-young.
