Kang Hee-Sik is a main character in the Kdrama series, Strong Girl Nam-Soon. The character is played by Ong Seong-Wu.
Kang Hee-Sik is one of the very few redeeming parts of Korea, the birthplace of Nam-Soon where she had expected to be this ideal wonderland while growing up in Mongolia by her adoptive parents.
When she reaches Korea, her initial impressions are quickly tarnished by a series of cons, mishaps, and bad experiences. However, police officer Kang Hee-Sik remains one of the few outliers whom she finds reliable, helpful, and handsome.
Diligent & kind
Kang Hee-Sik is a handsome police officer and it is something Nam-Soon observes early on after meeting him. She also finds out a number of other qualities that make him distinct.
Hee-Sik is a diligent cop and he’s also rather kind. When Nam-Soon is all choked up insisting on keeping her golden staff with herself to find her birth mother, Hee-Sik sees her genuine tears and promises to help her find her mother.
Later on, he gets her stuff checked at the forensics and promptly returns all of it to her, not being tempted a bit by the 24-karat golden staff with diamonds engraved in the middle.
Furthermore, he gives Nam-Soon his phone so she can communicate and later lets her stay the night at his own house. Most importantly, Hee-Sik figures out her relationship with Geum-Ju and helps significantly in reuniting the mother and the daughter.
Tailing the drug
Meanwhile, Kang Hee-Sik is very busy as a police officer working as a part of a special team. It’s a secret task force, part of the ten total drug investigation units in Seoul.
It was formed at the orders of the Commissioner General as drug-related crimes saw an exponential rise. They are currently on the hunt for the Gangnam druggies but a new mighty player has entered the arena.
This player is Ryu Si-O, who has used his wealth to synthesize an absurdly potent drug that can kill people with just a speck.
Kang Hee-Sik has found himself wedged between this grand drug trail and also the more trivial but important matters related to Nam-Soon.
Seemingly unrelated, these two worlds have collided and Nam-Soon’s mother, who herself has waged war on drugs, has helped Hee-Sik learn the epicenter of these drugs — the logistics company Doogo.
Now, Hee-Sik must work with Nam-Soon as she helps him against this dangerous operation against Doogo and Ryu Si-O, lending her incredible strength to make matters easier.
Meanwhile, Kang Hee-Sik and Nam-Soon are both into each other romantically, and as their cooperation grows and moves forward, so does their romantic arc.
