Kang Bo-geol: Castaway Diva character explained

Woo-hak’s brother, Kang Bo-geol, has been trying his best to keep their traumatic past hidden from Woo-hak. Chae Jong-hyeop plays Kang Bo-geol in Castaway Diva.

Bo-geol is one of the producers of YGN’s variety program, Heyday Again. When Bo-geol’s older brother, Woo-hak, finds Mok-ha on an uninhabited island, Bo-geol’s family’s past comes back to haunt them, much to Bo-geol’s horror.

Hiding the truth

A traumatic incident in the past led to Woo-hak losing his memories. He does not remember anything about his life before high school. He suspects that his family is hiding something from him and that Bo-geol does not truthfully answer his questions about their past.

Despite that, Woo-hak opposes Bo-geol whenever Bo-geol tries to get a separate room or put some distance between them. Even though Woo-hak keeps trying to imitate Bo-geol in everything that he does, the two brothers are very different from each other.

When the brothers rescue Mok-ha, Bo-geol is kind to her, but he also keeps his distance. He asks Woo-hak and Mok-ha to not make her personal life public, but they do not listen to him, which results in Mr. Jung finding her.

Bo-geol manages to save Mok-ha without revealing his face to Mr. Jung, but he is unable to stop his brother from finding out about their past. When Woo-hak comes across their family photograph at Mr. Jung’s house, Bo-geol has no choice but to reveal to his brother that Mr. Jung is their father.

Bo-geol lets his brother believe that he is Ki-ho and that he lost his memory after Mr. Jung hit him. However, Woo-hak knows that there is more to the truth than that and decides to investigate, as he wants to get his real name back.

At the same time, it does not take Bo-geol long to figure out that Mok-ha has been singing in Ran-joo’s place. As Heyday Again’s producer, Bo-geol tries to make Mok-ha’s dream of becoming a singer come true.

Bo-geol supports her but also acts distant, and that confuses Mok-ha. Just when Mok-ha starts thinking that Bo-geol is Ki-ho, he does something or the other that makes her think that he cannot be her friend and that she cannot rely on him.

Eventually, it is revealed that Mok-ha was right about Bo-geol being Ki-ho. Bo-geol gets tired of deceiving people and living a lie. He tries his best to make Mok-ha a star, and after her successful debut, he tells her that he is Ki-ho, the friend she has been looking for.
