In Castaway Diva, Jung Bong-wan, played by Lee Seung-joon, is Bo-geol and Woo-hak’s abusive father, who has been looking for his wife and sons for 15 years.
Jung Bong-wan used to live with his son, Ki-ho, on Chunsam Island. Mr. Jung’s life changed completely when his son ran away from home and Mr. Jung lost his family. However, Mr. Jung refuses to give up on finding them.
Years later, when Mok-ha is rescued, Mr. Jung gets an opportunity to reunite with his family. He is ready to do whatever it takes to find his wife and sons and bring them to the house that he has been maintaining for them.
Making home an unsafe place
Before moving to Chunsam Island, Mr. Jung used to live in Seoul with his two sons and wife, Jae-kyung. One day, when Ki-ho talks back to Mr. Jung, he hits Ki-ho with a chair. Ki-ho’s brother, Chae-ho, takes the hit to protect Ki-ho.
Chae-ho is taken to the hospital. He loses his memory and does not wake up for several days. During this time, Mr. Jung is transferred to Chunsam Island. He moves to the island with Ki-ho, whereas his wife stays with Chae-ho.
On the island, Ki-ho takes odd jobs and does whatever he can to save money, as he wants to run away from home. Every day with Mr. Jung is a struggle for Ki-ho because his father hurts him whenever he loses his temper.
Ki-ho does not go to the police, as Mr. Jung is also a policeman. After Mok-ha’s disappearance, Ki-ho finally manages to leave his father and return to Seoul, but not before reporting his father for domestic abuse.
As a result, Mr. Jung loses his job. He then decides to move to Seoul to find his family, but it is not an easy task because his wife has already married another man and acquired new identities for her family.
The search for his family
It has been 15 years since Mr. Jung lost his family, but he is still looking for them. He works as a security guard and saves all his money for his children.
Ki-ho’s school friend, Dae-woong, does not know how dangerous Mr. Jung is. He tries to convince him to move on, but the advice makes Mr. Jung so angry that he places hornets in his car to harm him. Due to that, Dae-woong gets into a car accident.
At the same time, when Mr. Jung hears about Mok-ha’s return, he starts stalking her. He knows how close she was to Ki-ho and believes that Mok-ha and Ki-ho will reunite sooner or later.
Ki-ho, who is now Bo-geol, tries to mislead Mr. Jung, but Mr. Jung is too smart to be misled. To protect his family, Bo-geol has no other choice but to confront his father. He allows his father to beat him up and records the whole incident.
Bo-geol has been collecting evidence against Mr. Jung for years, and he threatens to report him if he does not stay away from him and his family. Despite that, Mr. Jung still goes to meet his ex-wife and tries to hurt Mok-ha.
Mok-ha calls the police on him, and Mr. Jung is arrested. However, Mr. Jung does not change at all. He still wants his wife and sons back, even though he knows that they do not want anything to do with him.
