Jin Ga-young: My Demon character explained

In My Demon, Jin Ga-young, also known as Star Jin, is a celebrated Korean traditional dancer who has been in love with Ga-won for years. Jo Hye-joo plays Ga-young.

Before Gu-won met Do-hee, Mr. Park and Jin Ga-young were the only ones who knew about him being a demon.

Due to that, Ga-young believes that she is more special to him than any other human and does not wish to share Gu-won with anyone.

Ga-young thinks that she is the only human who understands Gu-won, which is why Gu-won growing close to Do-hee makes her insecure.

Ga-young develops a dislike for Do-hee when she realizes that, despite Gu-won’s denial, Do-hee holds a significant place in his heart.

Finding her savior

Gu-won had made a deal with Ga-young’s father. As her father signed a blood contract with Gu-won, he got a huge sum of money in exchange for his soul.

However, in a drunken state, he gambled that money in one night and forgot all about it the next morning. Apart from being a drunkard, he was also an abusive father.

When Ga-young was young, he often got drunk and abused Ga-young. One day, when he tried to kill her, Gu-won came to her rescue, as his contract expired that day.

Gu-won claimed Ga-young’s father’s soul, and Ga-young started seeing Gu-won as her savior. She followed him and asked him to take her with him, but Gu-won refused.

Gu-won disappeared, but Ga-young did not lose hope. She left no stone unturned to find Gu-won, and she did succeed eventually.

Ga-young became a traditional dancer and started working at Gu-won’s Sunwol Foundation. She made a name for herself and achieved stardom.

Losing her special place

Once Ga-young found Gu-won, she became a part of his life, as she knew his secrets. Even today, she considers Gu-won her savior.

Ga-young is in love with Gu-won because he saved her in the past. She keeps trying to get his attention, but to no avail, as Gu-won does not reciprocate her feelings.

When Gu-won meets Do-hee and has to protect her after losing his powers, Ga-young feels threatened because she fears that Do-hee will take her place in Gu-won’s life.

Her worst fears are realized when Do-hee and Gu-won get married. Although Ga-young knows that theirs is a marriage of convenience, she is still heartbroken and angry.

Soon after, Gu-won gets attacked, and Ga-young blames Do-hee. She then realizes that Gu-won has fallen in love with Do-hee.

Until then, Ga-young was content being Gu-won’s human companion, but that changes when Do-hee becomes more important to Gu-won.

Ga-young then attempts to keep Do-hee and Gu-won apart, as she is unwilling to allow another human to take the special place she believes she holds in Gu-won’s life.

Ga-young’s attempts only result in her pushing Gu-won further away from her. She has no choice but to accept the fact that Gu-won loves Do-hee.

Ga-young also comes to realize that Do-hee is a good person, which makes it hard for her to hate her. Consequently, Ga-young decides to leave the country in order to move on.
