Jagtap: Indian Police Force character explained

Jagtap is a major supporting character who plays a pivotal role in the narrative of the Indian Police Force during the later parts of the first season. Sharad Kelkar plays the character in the Prime Video series.

Tara Shetty, with the help of her superiors, lays the foundation for the covert mission to arrest and bring back the terrorist Zarar from Dhaka.

Jagtap is selected as the team’s asset on foreign soil who will aid Kabir and Rana as soon as they land there. The R&AW agent proves to be crucial in the mission thenceforth.

The original trio

Jagtap was part of the trio of friends from IPS training days that both Vikram and Tara — the other two parts of the trio — always talked fondly about.

Both Vikram and Tara reminisce about their days and talk about Jagtap to Kabir, and by the second time his name is mentioned, Kabir is already familiar with it.

Though the show doesn’t delve much into it, it’s understood that these three friends went their separate ways after the training but their destinations, i.e., the thing that drives all of them, weren’t dissimilar.

All three ended up working to protect the country from different sorts of threats.

Vikram Bakshy became an IPS officer in the Delhi Police. Tara Shetty became the chief of ATS Gujarat. And Jagtap became a R&AW agent.

The bond between the three is shown to be a really strong one.

And even if Tara and Vikram seem to be squabbling and bantering quite often, they respect and admire each other very much.

Whereas Vikram and Tara’s jobs are mostly confined within the national territories, Jagtap being an R&AW agent is a bit more international with his missions.

The first time he’s shown on screen in the Indian Police Force is as an undercover agent working in Bangladesh, talking fluently in Bangla with the locals.

Homecoming

Jagtap is also a repository of knowledge when it comes to the terrain of the region he’s been undercover in for such a long time.

This comes in handy during his escape from the Bangladeshi Intelligence while trying to bring the terrorist Zarar back into India.

Naturally, he’s also a skilled marksman and a fighter. Apart from that, he is also rather calm and level-headed, which gives him an upper hand even in the direst of situations.

When support from India seems to be hitting its threshold, he declares he has a plan for entry back into their nation.

He has to successfully execute it before the Bangladeshi intelligence can snatch away their detainee and claim him as their own arrest to hog all the credit.

He manages to do it with relative ease which makes the feat all the more impressive.

This important case also greatly benefits him as it provides him the opportunity to return to the country after a long time cooped up in Bangladesh, and he thanks Tara for that.
