Jade: Ted Lasso character explained

In Ted Lasso, Jade, the hostess at Nate’s parents’ favorite restaurant, A Taste of Athens, is the only person who continues to remain oblivious to Nate’s success, making him more insecure in turn. Edyta Budnik plays Jade.

Nate first meets Jade in the fifth episode of Ted Lasso season 2 when he approaches her at A Taste of Athens to book a table for his parents’ 35th marriage anniversary.

He eyes the window table, but Jade doesn’t give him that right away. She intends to talk to the manager, Derrick, first. When Nate is denied the table, he mentions that he really wants to impress his father and that he knows Roy Kent.

Jade turns down an already insecure Nate by asking if Roy is his father and to come back when Roy needs the table. Jade triggers a bit of insecurity in Nate, who has been rejected and not respected his whole life.

Nate spends the rest of the episode taking tips and training from Rebecca and Keeley on how to be more assertive. Their techniques don’t work, but a change of attitude sees him asking for the table again, and he finally gets it.

Nate also asks for Jade’s number. She doesn’t give him the number, claiming that she is picky. The fact that Jade doesn’t acknowledge who he is sticks with him.

Jade meets a new Nate

In the third season of Ted Lasso, Nate attempts to meet Jade again. Now, he is the head coach at West Ham and has transformed his personality, yet when it comes to Jade, he gets nervous about even entering the restaurant.

Eventually, he does and tries to strike up a conversation with her, which will lead him to talk about his new job and the fact that he has bought food for his whole staff.

Jade: Ted Lasso character explained 1
Jade offers company to a lonely Nate

Jade continues to be unimpressed by Nate’s achievements. The restaurant manager, on the other hand, acknowledges Nate. Still, it doesn’t affect Jade even a bit.

She treats Nate as if he is just another regular customer passing by, and that hurts Nate a bit, who continues to seek validation from her.

Jade finally accepts Nate

The next time Nate visits A Taste of Athens, he brings along famous model Anastasia, introduced to him through Rupert, on a date. Jade plays around by asking what Anastasia wants as if she is not with Nate.

Over time, Anastasia gets bored of spending time at this restaurant and hearing stories of why this place is important for Nate. She leaves him hanging to join her friends.

Jade takes note of their conversation. She later joins a lonely Nate, who is finally being himself around her and is not seeking any sort of validation from her.

From the looks of it, Jade was always doing her job, and she is being used to portray the insecurities Nate has. Nate’s two back-to-back visits encouraged her to play along, considering how Nate is desperately trying to grab her attention.
