In The Afterparty season 2, Isabel Minnows is the mother of Edgar. She is not much liked because not everyone knows what she is suffering from. Elizabeth Perkins plays Isabel.
Isabel Minnows gives the impression of a heartless, cold, rich snob who only cares about her people when she first appears in The Afterparty season 2.
She is quick to blame Grace and her family for the murder of her son, stating that they are after their money. Isabel may not be well-liked, but it is later revealed that she has a heart too when she gets to tell her side of the story.
Isabel’s loss
In the ninth episode of The Afterparty season 2, Isabel reveals how the loss of her husband, who died after falling asleep while flying a plane and leading the plane to crash, affected her.
The death took a toll on her. She wasn’t able to sleep, even with the sleeping pills, and stayed up all night trying to keep herself busy. She would get lost in her thoughts and forget things.
As a proud woman, she kept all of this from her kids, but she assumed that they had started judging her. She also heard the music that her husband liked. However, she was the only one who heard this music.
The forgetfulness got to a point where Isabel couldn’t remember her son’s soon-to-be wife’s name. However, she always acted like she purposefully didn’t remember Grace’s name.
Parcels arrived at Minnows’ residence under Isabel’s name, and she failed to remember when she ordered all of this. At this point, Edgar decided to consult a doctor, who advised him to consider a conservatorship.
Isabel resolves to prove that she is sane. She carefully chooses the napkins for the wedding, which will have the correct spelling of Grace on them. Still, somehow, the napkins delivered come with the name ‘Gail’ on them.
It’s when Isabel talks to Travis that she deduces that Edgar is plotting against her to secure her money for his cryptocurrency. She assumed this considering that her mental state was deteriorating and her son was showing no sympathy to her.
Isabel’s other side
While talking to Danner and Aniq, Isabel shows a completely different side of herself. She might be cold, but during the wedding, her behavior was the result of what was happening to her.
Isabel mentions that she values Hannah’s opinion a lot and is just not into telling her kids that she loves them face-to-face. Isabel also tried to protect Grace by having her sign the prenup.
Isabel strongly believed that her son’s cryptocurrency would fail, so regardless of what happens between Edgar and Grace, Grace would get one million dollars if she signs the prenup. Hence, Isabel pursued her to sign it.
Isabel explains this move of hers by stating that Minnows look out for each other. However, she is quickly left disappointed upon hearing that Grace is keeping her last name.
Did Isabel murder her own son?
During the wedding reception, Isabel suspected that her son is trying to poison her by offering her a piece of cake. When she saw the chance, she switched their cakes and gave Edgar the poisoned one.
Isabel likes to think she is the one who poisoned her son. She decided to own up after discovering the napkins she ordered with the correct spelling of Grace on them in Edgar’s room.
Danner and Aniq don’t find Isabel’s confession satisfying. Edgar showed symptoms of The Devil’s Trumpet’s poison before dying. According to the symptoms, a person starts hallucinating 15 minutes after consuming the poison.
Isabel and Edgar ate cake at the reception. In between, they had 90 minutes of dancing and then the afterparty, where Edgar hallucinated and called everyone the Devil. This proves Isabel didn’t kill Edgar.
