In Mea Culpa, Hydie is Zyair Malloy’s girlfriend, who accuses him of killing her in a video. María Gabriela González plays Hydie.
Zyair Malloy meets Hydie when he is in Italy on vacation, looking for inspiration. Hydie is working as a waitress at a little restaurant there.
Zyair spends 10 days there and hits it off with Hydie. Zyair calls her the selfie queen because Hydie makes sure to document every day of theirs in Italy.
According to Zyair, for six months, they were inseparable. One day, he came back home from the exhibit and realized she was gone.
Hydie’s murder case
In the present, Hydie is dead, her body is missing, and Zyair Malloy has been accused of killing her.
In a video sent to Hydie’s sister, Hydie claimed that Zyair is going to kill her, and if the world is watching this video, she is possibly dead.
Proof against Zyair is the blood collected, which seems to have seeped down from his apartment to his neighbor’s and the skull fragments found in one of his paintings. The DNA matches Hydie’s.
All of this evidence suggests that Zyair possibly bashed her head and put her skull in the painting. However, Zyair denies killing anybody; he thinks it’s all cooked-up evidence.
The truth about Hydie
Mea picks up Zyair’s case and tasks her trusted private investigator Jimmy to dig for details on Hydie.
Hydie is from Mexico, and to Jimmy and Mea’s surprise, no one there has ever heard of her. Even the location from which Hydie sent the video is a place where no families live.
Mea comes across someone who looks like Hydie during a vacation in Santo Domingo. The woman is a waitress working at the resort Mea is staying at.
The woman makes a run for it upon being confronted, confirming that she is indeed Hydie and has faked her death.
Mea is asked to come back home after informing her brother-in-law, Ray, about Hydie. Once she is back, it is revealed that Hydie was part of Ray, Azalea, and Kal’s plot to exact revenge on Zyair for sleeping with Charlise, Ray’s wife.
While Mea succeeds in bringing their crimes to light and acquitting Zyair of all charges, Hydie’s fate isn’t revealed at the end of Mea Culpa.
