Hwang Geum-Dong is a major supporting character in Netflix’s comedy Kdrama, Strong Girl Nam-Soon. The character is played by Kim Ki-Doo.
Strong Girl Nam-Soon focuses on the titular young woman who wields superhuman strength, like all the women born in her biological family, thanks to a specific gene they all inherit.
Only the women in this family exhibit these powers while the men don’t inherit any of these quirks or features.
In fact, judging the way the surviving male members of the family are, it’s no stretch to say that they are quite the opposite of all the strengths that define the women.
Nam-Soon’s brother Gang Nam-In is obese, and rather problematically bullied by his mother to be lean and thin quickly.
Nam-Soon’s grandfather is also a rather goofy man who is a bit dense when it comes to social cues or seeing how his actions may affect his family members.
Man of limitations
Similarly, Hwang Geum-Dong is the perpetually down and dreary uncle of the lead protagonist Gang Nam-Soon in Strong Girl Nam-Soon.
Marked by his weasely demeanor and hunched-down posture, he creates a number of hilarious moments in the show, ironically through his body language.
Hwang Geum-Dong is one lousy fellow. He is slouched and whining most of the time. He’s got an array of afflictions that render him immobile, and he loves to do nothing about it.
Even loud noises tilt him from his center of gravity. Minor issues spike his blood pressure and land him in hospital.
The track record with women
His mother makes bone broth for him and he drinks it like a child, which he does so many times as his mother coddles him and even carries him on her back, creating a baffling scenery because he’s a middle-aged man.
From the way he and other men in the family are such opposites of the women in the family, it’s almost like all their strength is also siphoned off to the women.
Geum Dong is also a bad flirt and all his efforts at striking something between him and Secretary Na-Young have failed.
She states clearly that she likes her men to be masculine whereas a loud door-shutting trembles Hwang Geum-Dong with a sonic whiplash.
