Huang Hsiao-yin follows in her teacher’s footsteps by killing those who use idioms incorrectly. In GG Precinct, Winnie plays Hsiao-yin.
The officers at GG Precinct are tasked with catching a serial killer who murders people and arranges their bodies in ways that represent certain idioms.
This case resembles one from twenty years ago, where a Chinese language teacher, Shui-yuan, killed his students and arranged their bodies to remind people of the mistakes they made.
The new killer, a no-nonsense delivery girl named Hsiao-yin, is imitating Shui-yuan’s style, leaving riddles at the crime scenes for the police to decipher the idioms represented.
Hsiao-yin’s role model
When Hsiao-yin was young, her brother, Huang Hsien, was Shui-yuan’s board assistant at the cram school where Shui-yuan taught.
Hsiao-yin and Huang Hsien were poor and could not afford to enroll in Shui-yuan’s classes. However, when Shui-yuan noticed Huang Hsien’s thirst for knowledge, he decided to teach the siblings for free.
Huang Hsien was an intelligent student, but Hsiao-yin was even better. Shui-yuan left a strong impression on young Hsiao-yin. She began to look up to him and aspired to be like him.
She admired him so much that she was prepared to kill those students who disrespected Shui-yuan and bullied her brother.
If it had not been for Shui-yuan’s intervention, she might have committed murder. Shui-yuan not only stopped her but also taught her that killing is wrong and that she must find another way to release her negative thoughts.
However, this lesson lost its meaning when Shui-yuan himself killed those students for writing incorrect words on his idiom exam.
Imitating Shui-yuan
After Shui-yuan is imprisoned, Huang Hsien works hard to become a cram school teacher. On the other hand, Hsiao-yin turns out to be more like Shui-yuan.
Influenced by his ideas, she cannot bear the thought of becoming a teacher in a world where discipline is not valued.
She decides to preserve the integrity of Shui-yuan’s teachings and chooses to become a delivery person instead of teaching in such a world.
She disapproves of her brother, who seems more interested in having affairs with his students than in their education. She accuses him of forgetting Shui-yuan’s teachings.
When Huang Hsien does not change his ways, Hsiao-yin decides to teach him a lesson and finish what Shui-yuan started, even if it means killing people.
Like Shui-yuan, Hsiao-yin gets annoyed when people use idioms incorrectly. If they refuse to learn when she corrects them, she kills them in the same way Shui-yuan killed his victims.
Shui-yuan eventually realizes that the person imitating his methods is none other than Hsiao-yin. After escaping, he visits her.
Instead of praising her, as Hsiao-yin had hoped, Shui-yuan criticizes her execution of the murders, expressing his disappointment.
He especially disapproves of her killing Liu Mu-ting, a top student who did not make mistakes in her use of idioms. Hsiao-yin had killed Liu Mu-ting to change her brother.
Shui-yuan tells her that he did not want her to imitate him and that she has lost her way and her purpose in life, which she will not find by imitating him.
Hsiao-yin promises not to disappoint Shui-yuan the next time she kills, but once again, Shui-yuan stops her from committing murder. This time, Chief Chang was going to be her victim.
Shui-yuan asks her to leave with him, but Hsiao-yin is determined to represent the idiom she had missed when she killed Liu Mu-ting.
Since Shui-yuan asked her not to kill Chief Chang, Hsiao-yin decides to take her own life to complete the idiom, thus bringing an end to the serial killings.
