Plot summary:

Soon after Bryce descended into Hell, he convinced the Devil to give him more time because he could work with Monkey and bring in more souls.

They spend months doing simple jobs while still following Monkey’s code of only killing the bad people who deserve it until they get noticed.

They are summoned to ‘The Handler’s office, a woman named Eunice who used to manage Bryce when he was alive.

She is impressed by his work and wants Monkey to work for her. She is also made aware of Bryce’s presence as a ghost and apologizes for her part in his death.

They head back to Bryce’s apartment where they find Haruka, who traveled from Tokyo after the city was flung into chaos following Shinji’s death.

She has Bonsai Master’s sword with her after her precinct was attacked and everyone was killed to reclaim it.

They meet a weapons dealer who says that the Bonsai Master’s sword is extremely ancient and powerful and whoever wields it will be severely influenced by the weapon.

Eunice gives Monkey a job, but it turns out to be a trap. A creature goes after Haruka but she wields the sword and is momentarily possessed by a warrior spirit.

She turns back as soon as she lets go of the sword, but she feels a rush from killing whenever she is possessed.

Monkey, Bryce, and Haruka go back to Eunice to find out who ordered the fake hit and get the name of a librarian.

They question her but are attacked by other assassins. They manage to fight them off but the librarian is fatally wounded.

Before dying, she tells them that a group called the Aldermen tortured her to break her code and order the hit.

While all this is going on, Bryce is also trying to gather the courage to face his daughter Iris, who is working at a bistro near his apartment.

He doesn’t want to talk to her but Monkey tries to force the issue and just agitates Iris while hurting Bryce.

The trio infiltrates a building where they find the alderman who ordered the hit but his eyes glow yellow and he turns into a monster after using a golden pendant.

It has similar properties to the sword, but before Haruka can get to him, a creepy girl kills the alderman and runs away with the pendant.

Haruka starts to get obsessed with the power of the sword and they come up against another one of the Alderman, this time a giant with a magical club.

They defeat it with some help and are introduced to the Assassin’s Co-operative. It consists of former assassins who have a single goal in mind saving the world.

Their leader, Boone, explains to Bryce, Monkey, and Haruka that several years ago, a village going through a drought was granted a magical relic.

This relic made their lands fertile, but powerful forces took the relic and turned it into different weapons and used them to subjugate the world.

However, the people possessing these weapons betrayed each other until the Aldermen figured that it would be better to work together for their benefit.

Monkey and Haruka want to join the Co-op’s cause, but Bryce doesn’t trust their mission. He is desperate to make things right with his daughter and makes another deal with the devil.

The devil grants him 48 hours with a corporeal body and he can switch back and forth at will till the clock runs down.

He is able to convince Iris that he is a good guy who made bad decisions and she hears him out.

He gets her a job as a crime scene cleaner under the tutelage of Buddy, who works for Eunice and knows Bryce from way back when.

Akiko travels to New York and pretends to be Lady Bullseye while searching for Monkey. The spirit of the original Lady Bullseye appears and mentors her to fulfill her potential.

She almost kills Monkey but he fights her off with Eunice’s help and takes her to Co-op where Boone tells him that Akiko is not the same person she used to be.

Despite not trusting the Co-op, Bryce is fighting the same enemy so he and Monkey help them take another one of the Alderman, leaving just one remaining.

They get the last weapon and Monkey feels like a part of the Co-op, but Bryce still has his doubts, and Haruka realizes that they are the ones who attacked her precinct.

They grab the sword so that the Co-op cannot complete their plan and then retreat to Eunice’s safehouse.

Monkey is sent to get the sword back and he fights Bryce. Akiko shows up and fights Haruka, but where Haruka shows mercy, Akiko doesn’t and kills her.

The Co-op arrive and grab the sword so that they can melt the weapons back into the original relic and give humanity a second chance.

Monkey is devastated about Haruka’s death and even more shocked to find out that the Co-op has also made a deal with the devil.

When he tries to fight back, he is trapped inside one of the assassin’s minds. Bryce is able to rescue him but Boone has already got the relic and set it off at Time Square.

The city is turned into a jungle and all the people are killed. They wanted to start a global euthanasia project that would resupply the devil’s armies for the war he’s fighting in Hell.

Eunice gathers all of her assassins and Monkey convinces all of them to fight for good and save the world.

They set off a bomb near the relic after taking out the rest of Boone’s team, but he has some shards of the relic inside him and he turns into a giant monster.

Ending explained:

A scientific solution

Bryce, Monkey, Eunice, Buddy, and Iris are being chased through the streets by monster Boone and none of their weapons are working.

They cannot figure out what will take it down until Iris remembers Buddy’s special solution that he uses while cleaning.

It can burn down any organic material, so they prepare a batch of it to defeat Boone. It works until it runs out, and Bryce and Monkey realize that they need to pull out the relic shards from Boone’s body.

A history lesson

Each time they pull a shard, they are transported to a different time period where Boone shows Monkey humanity’s worst.

They are transported to the worst wars so that they can see all the pain and suffering humans cause.

Then Monkey is taken back to see his own past. He was raised in a lab until one of the scientists tried to save him before she died.

Boone tries to convince Monkey that humanity isn’t worth fighting for, but Bryce strikes the killing blow to put an end to his whispers.

A role reversal

Everything seems to have settled down, until Akiko drives up to them with a truck full of salt and dumps it on Bryce.

While he burns, she restrains everyone else and fights Monkey. The devil watches all of this eagerly waiting the outcome.

Monkey doesn’t want to fight Akiko, so she tries to kill Iris and hurt Bryce, in turn hurting Monkey.

Bryce uses the last minutes of his corporeal body to get in front of Iris and save her. Monkey grabs Akiko and falls into the river, drowning them both.

Satisfied with Monkey’s soul, the Devil gives Bryce his life back and tells him that his debt is paid.

Bryce just wanders through life until he notices Monkey’s ghost one day. He asks Monkey what took him so long and is excited for what lies ahead.
