Hayden Wells Garrett: The Girls on the Bus character explained

Hayden Wells Garrett is one of the candidates running to secure the Democratic Presidential nomination. Scott Foley plays the character.

Hayden Wells Garrett is a Mayor and war veteran who is given the smallest of chances to progress in the race.

He’s given the nickname “Hot White Guy” as he is the cookie-cutter candidate who appeals to everyone in the country.

The nickname also works because it cleverly fits the initials of his real name and the character is loosely based on Mayor Pete Buttigieg, although no one will confirm that out loud.

Despite all the chaos around him, the Mayor stays strong and moves forward in the race against all the odds.

Capturing the demographics

The first time Hayden gets on people’s radar is after Sadie writes a profile about him in her paper.

He comes under the spotlight when the news reports that he was involved in an accident with a mystery woman.

Hayden brushes it off by stating that he simply rushed toward the accident to save the woman, and since she isn’t a candidate, everyone should respect her privacy.

Thanks to his charming personality, everyone takes him for his word and lets it go. He then gets an interview with Kimberlynn to talk about his policies and win her over.

Sadie finds herself enjoying conversations with him and they have a good rapport with each other that includes back-and-forth banter.

Once Felicity Walker is exposed, Hayden has a serious chance at becoming the nominee and Grace gets an interview with him, but she’s preoccupied with other issues.

Laila asks him for help getting into the DNC as part of his entourage, but he gives her an empty promise.

After Sadie has her meeting with Declan Morales, she learns that Dick Braun is the one who paid for the dirt on Walker, and he’s backing Hayden.

She connects the dots and realizes that Hayden is the perfect candidate to put forward Braun’s corporate policies that do not prioritize regular people.

Sadie gets her hands on classified documents about Hayden’s military record, and everything connected to his campaign.

When he is confronted with allegations of being a puppet, he gives her a very basic defense of necessary evils and justifies his decision.

He is successful in becoming the nominee, but Sadie and the others promise to ensure he doesn’t make it to the White House.
