Hank Prior: True Detective: Night Country character explained

In True Detective: Night Country, Hank Prior is a fellow cop working for the Ennis police. John Hawkes plays Hank.

Hank, also known as Henry, is the father of Peter Prior. However, in contrast to his son, Hank is not much liked among his peers. He is careless at his job, and some even see him as an idiot.

A woman scams him by connecting with him online. Hank calls her his fiancée and is waiting for her to come for Christmas.

She doesn’t show up. What’s worse is that Hank has been sending her money. Anyhow, Liz claims that Hank is smarter than he looks.

Throughout the season, Hank is seen paying less and less attention to the case at hand. It is later revealed that he tried to bury a lead to Annie’s case, which is pretty much connected to the Tsalal men’s case.

Hank’s secret

In the third episode of True Detective: Night Country, Susan, Annie’s friend, reveals that she did report the secret relationship between Annie and Raymond Clark to a police officer.

That police officer is Hank, who not only took Navarro off Annie’s case but also buried this strong lead.

In the fifth episode, it is revealed that he is in cahoots with Kate McKittrick. They killed Annie, and they don’t want Liz and Navarro to find out.

Kate asks Hank to do another job for her

Hank worked for Kate and her people because they gave him a lot of money and promised to make him the Chief of Police.

While Hank received money, he has yet to become Chief of Police. Kate tasks Hank to take care of the situation. With the help of Otis Heiss, Liz will reach the location of Annie’s death.

Kate once again promises Hank the position of chief if he stops her.

Hank’s death

Hank tracks Liz, who leads him to Otis Heiss. Hank intends to take Otis away. When Liz attempts to stop him, he takes out his gun. Hank is not in for a deal because Liz turned his son against him.

Hank ends up killing Otis in front of Liz. Peter is living in the shack in the backyard of Liz’s house. He comes with his gun.

Peter gives what is happening a lot of thought and then keeps his gun pointed at his father. Hank confesses that he didn’t kill Annie K; he only assisted in moving her body.

When Hank attempts to point his gun at Liz, Peter shoots and kills his father. Navarro comes to the scene following the incident.

Liz, Navarro, and Peter agree that they should get rid of Hank’s body. They are close to solving Annie and the Tsalal men’s case. They shouldn’t stop.
