In Rabbit Hole, John Weir hooks up with a woman named Hailey Winton and ditches her, assuming that she is plotting against him, only to later conclude that someone is targeting them both. Hailey Winton is played by Meta Golding.
John Weir meets Hailey at a bar, where he is executing a heist with his team. Hailey stares at Weir and later approaches him to introduce herself.
Hailey says she is from Pittsburgh and is here for some meetings. To kill some time, she opted to scroll through dating apps. She looked up from the phone and saw him right around the corner. Both Weir and Hailey get lost in each other, leaving Hailey no option but to invite him to her hotel room.
After spending a night with her, in the morning, Weir discovers a camera inside the clock near their bed. He assumes that FBI agent Jo Madi has sent Hailey to record him with her and blackmail him. Though Hailey denies all of these claims, Weir leaves believing that she is acting.
Right after that, on his way to work, a mysterious blue Mercedes starts following Weir around.
How did Hailey find Weir?
Later, no threat comes from Hailey’s side, and even Madi denies sending anyone to blackmail Weir. John Weir sees Hailey in Valence’s neighborhood and asks his team to see if she is hiding anything.
A bit of research reveals that Hailey’s full name is Hailey Marie Winton. She is a lawyer from Pittsburgh who works for a non-profit called the Homeless Aid Network. From her profile, Hailey looks like a completely normal citizen, and she also has no criminal record.
Weir still feels something is not right. So he approaches her the next time he sees her and asks what she was doing on the 9th and 35th streets. Talking to her results in Weir finding out that she approached him because she found him on a dating app.
Weir has no idea that he has a dating profile. Hailey shows him his profile, and before they could end their conversation, the news, suggesting that Weir has murdered Edward Homm, the Treasury Department investigator, started playing on the television, forcing Hailey to escape.
Weir rescues Hailey
After losing his entire team and being framed for murder, Weir stays low and notices that two individuals are trying to kidnap Hailey, pretending to be cops. They attempt to put her in a car that looks similar to the one that was following him earlier.
Weir comes to her aid, claiming that these cops are arresting an innocent. The crowd gathers and allows Weir and Hailey to escape. Weir starts learning more about Hailey as they engage in small banter inside his car.
Weir asks her the same questions about what she was doing on 9th Street. Hailey explains that she was on her job, but Weir likes to believe that there is something more to this because whoever is after him is after Hailey too.
Is Hailey conspiring against John Weir?
Weir takes Hailey to his childhood home, where he interrogates her. He asks her about the camera in her hotel room. For a moment, he agrees that she might be a victim in this too, but he needs to know who is watching her and why.
Hailey brings up some simple and plain arguments, suggesting a hotel staff member may have recorded them and put their video online. They move on to the dating app, where there is a profile of Weir that he doesn’t know about.
They find out that the email ID on Weir’s profile belongs to one of his co-workers, and they all may have created this profile just because they felt he was lonely.
Weir sees that Hailey has no connection to all of this, so he lets her go on the condition that she will forget about him. He hands Hailey her phone back. She opens it to see a message inside and quickly changes her mind.
Hailey says there is someone trying to kill her, and she would rather stay safe with Weir than get killed out there. Hailey later helps Weir out to retrieve Valence’s authenticator, but who she is working for still remains a mystery.
