Ha-ni: Sweet Home character explained

In Sweet Home, Ha-ni, a human survivor who does not live at the stadium, decides to help Chan-yeong and Eun-yu. Chae Won-bin plays Ha-ni.

Unlike the other survivors of monsterization, Ha-ni does not live at the stadium under the protection of the Crow Platoon.

Ha-ni travels from place to place in a trailer with Ho-sang, another survivor who hates humans as much as he hates monsters. Together, they fight monsters and manage to survive on their own, thanks to Ho-sang’s hunting skills.

A life without purpose

When Park Chan-yeong follows Eun-yu out of the stadium, they are taken captive by Ha-ni and Ho-sang because Ho-sang does not trust them.

Ha-ni immediately takes a liking to Chan-yeong, who is left behind by Eun-yu due to his injured foot. Chan-yeong trusts Ha-ni and eats the food she offers, which turns out to be a mistake.

Ha-ni is a drug addict, and she drugs Chan-yeong as well. He survives only because Ho-sang gives him an antidote in time.

Ho-sang then finds out that Chan-yeong and Eun-yu are willing to protect Hyun-su, a special infectee, and forces Ha-ni to part ways with them.

Ho-sang does not want anything to do with monsters, but Ha-ni wants to return to help Chan-yeong and Eun-yu. She sees them as people full of life, while she considers herself a hollow human being.

She now wants to live as Chan-yeong and Eun-yu do, even if it means risking her life, but she knows that Ho-sang would never agree to this.

Ho-sang likes that Ha-ni, who is the only person he cares about, has no desires or purpose in life, believing that it might prevent her from turning into a monster.

However, Ha-ni is tired of living a hollow life. She decides to join Chan-yeong and Eun-yu but does not want to abandon Ho-sang, so she drugs him and takes him along against his wishes.

Ha-ni witnesses Hyun-su undo monsterization and turn Yi-kyung back into a human. She then realizes that she and Ho-sang have been killing monsters unnecessarily.

The idea that those monsters could have been saved strengthens her conviction to stay with and help Chan-yeong, Eun-yu, and Hyun-su.

Ha-ni breaks her promise

Ha-ni’s parents underwent the process of monsterization and turned into monsters. They were immediately killed by Ho-sang right in front of Ha-ni.

Ha-ni promised Ho-sang that she would take revenge for her parents’ deaths and kill him the moment he turned into a monster.

Despite this, Ho-sang allows her to stay with him. In fact, he counts on her to kill him if he ever turns into a monster. He promises to do the same for her.

Soon after joining Chan-yeong and Eun-yu on their journey, Ho-sang starts turning into a monster. Now that the time has come to exact revenge, Ha-ni fails to kill Ho-sang.

Sweet Home Ha-ni
Ha-ni tries to kill Ho-sang but fails

Ha-ni has come to care about him and cannot bring herself to do it. Ho-sang then takes his own life to avoid becoming a monster.

Ha-ni apologizes to him for breaking her promise and vows to fight against monsterization until the end, just as he did.

Ha-ni then battles her addiction and joins Chan-yeong and Sergeant Park in rescuing the survivors at the stadium. She goes on to make new friends and live a life of purpose at Sweet Home.
