In The Afterparty season 2, Grace is Zoë’s newlywed sister who loses her husband, Edgar, the day after the wedding and becomes a prime suspect in his murder. Poppy Liu plays Grace.
Grace primarily deals in antiquities and knits as a hobby. Edgar’s mother, Isabel, immediately comes to the conclusion that Grace married Edgar for money and poisoned him on the wedding night.
Grace’s sister, Zoë, and Aniq try to find a way to prove that Grace isn’t guilty. However, Zoë can’t ignore that Grace was probably not in love with Edgar; she was in love with the idea of being in love.
How did Grace meet Edgar?
According to Zoë, Grace has always been unlucky in love. Grace, on her side, likes to think she never found the right guy until she met Edgar.
Grace met Edgar in her antique shop. Edgar was impressed by her love for antiques and how much she understands the emotions behind a certain piece from the past.
Edgar ends up inviting her to Hannah’s birthday celebration. At Hannah’s birthday party, Grace learned that she is dating Silicon Valley’s most eligible bachelor. She searched for Edgar’s name on the internet as soon as she got home.
Grace suddenly became part of Edgar’s world after making him dance that night, and although Edgar might be busy all the time, he still puts effort into making her happy and defends her when she is up against his own mother.
Problems between Grace and Zoë
Zoë is the one who sees that Grace is actually suffering in her relationship with Edgar. He might always make up for the lost time, but he isn’t adjusting the way Grace is. Grace doesn’t even want to admit it.
Grace feels Zoë plays the role of a big sister with her too much. She needs to let her make her own choices. Zoë often defends herself by stating that she has to look out for Grace because Grace doesn’t look out for herself.
However, Grace starts seeing that Zoë could be right when Edgar makes her sign a prenuptial agreement and decides to rather stick to his routine than spend some extra time with her.
Before marriage, Grace forces Zoë to tell her why she thinks she shouldn’t marry Edgar, and Zoë doesn’t hold back in telling how opposite Grace and Edgar really are; Grace is into antiques while Edgar is all about technology. If she is a night owl, he goes to sleep when the children do.
Does Grace poison Edgar?
Grace forces Edgar to come out of his shell, and he does. During their vows, he speaks from the heart and even dances with her later. Anyhow, he continues to stick to his schedule. Grace doesn’t give up easily.
Aniq had claimed that he saw Grace putting something in Edgar’s drink. Grace comes clean and says it was Adderall, a medicine Edgar has taken before. She put that in his drink to keep him awake for the rest of the night when he wanted to go to sleep early during their afterparty.
Grace doesn’t know why Edgar started calling everyone the devil at the afterparty. She took him to bed after that and found him dead in the morning.
