Gang Nam-In is the biological brother of the titular protagonist in Strong Girl Nam-Soon, who is currently battling an addiction to a highly potent drug.
Strong Girl Nam-Soon follows the titular girl who joins a fight against drugs and the elusive, powerful, and sinister drug mafia after reuniting with her biological family.
Gang Nam-Soon’s mother, Hwang Geum-Ju is a major player in this fight against Ryu Si-O, the superhuman guy who oversees the drug distribution from the shadows.
However, while the mother-daughter duo progressively infiltrates the drug operation and helps the police find the much-needed evidence to implicate Si-O and his business, they end up ignoring one of their own becoming a victim of the drugs.
Gang Nam-In and a busy mom
Gang Nam-In is fond of eating and in the midst of all his superhuman and relatively lean family members, he’s the only one with fat on his body.
This has led to his mother Geum-Ju deriding him time and again. She has been shown to criticize and lambast him for being fat, which has managed to be problematic nearly every time.
At the root of all this is a lack of effort to better empathize with her son.
Meanwhile, her recent reunion with her long-lost daughter Nam-Soon, and her fight against the influx of drugs in Korea have occupied Geum-Ju too much.
The ramifications
The constant fat-shaming, which Geum-Ju erroneously and ignorantly brands as her just wanting what’s good for her son, has led to Gang Nam-In feel estranged from her.
He does not feel the same love from her that he claims she has for her daughter. It’s shown multiple times how he often tends to be second on the priority scale. He even moves out of the home to go live with his father.
One day while at work, a girl walks in and hands him a pill, claiming that it will help him greatly in losing weight. Gang Nam-In takes the pill and soon becomes addicted to it.
It’s the same drug that Ryu Si-O has put into distribution all across Korea, and so he chugs bottle after bottle of water — a common effect of those who get hooked on this drug.
Nam-In’s situation becomes really complicated when he faints because of his condition, after suffering from the effects badly for a couple of days. His father, Gang Bong-Go finally finds him and immediately hospitalizes him.
He goes to police officer Kang Hee-Sik to analyze Nam-In’s weight loss pill and the results come out positive for the drug they’ve been investigating. A little bit too late, but Geum-Ju finally comes around to focusing on her son.
