Fanfic follows the story of Tosia, who falls in love with Leon while trying to figure out who she is as she feels trapped inside her body. The movie is now streaming on Netflix.

Plot summary
Tośka, also known as Tosia, is a high schooler who is navigating her life by writing fanfics online and stealing pills from her father. Her therapist has advised her not to do the latter, but she doesn’t really care about his advice.
Tosia spends her life staying away from everyone and isolating herself. The students at her high school even call her weird. Leon, a transfer student, feels drawn toward her.
Somewhere, Tosia feels attracted to Leon too, but she decides to ignore these feelings. Though she pushes him away, he doesn’t really leave her mind. He ends up becoming a character in her fanfics, and her main character is attracted to his character.
Back home, even Tosia’s father is struggling to understand her. He feels she is always sulky, off, and resentful.
Leon and Tosia eventually connect, and she is even invited to a party that he is organizing at his place. At the party, she finds out that Leon is not actually into her. At the same time, she also learns that she is more comfortable wearing Leon’s clothes.
The next day, at school, Maks, the class bully, teases Tosia for her choice of clothes. Amidst the chaos, Roksana asks Tosia if they can work on a school presentation together.
Back home, Tosia continues to think about her gender and decides to come out as a boy in front of her father. She goes through a makeover and starts calling herself Tosiek.
When Tosia’s father doesn’t accept his child’s new identity, Tosiek goes to Leon. He accepts Tosiek for who he is, gives him a haircut, and they both enjoy time together at Konrad’s party. Konrad and Leon are dating, and the former sees Tosiek as nothing more than an attention-seeking girl.
Leon continues to join Tosiek as the latter takes him on an adventure through the city. The next day, Tosiek’s pictures from the party and from weeks ago go viral. The anonymous account abuses him for his gender choice.
Leon cuts contact with Tosiek and stays away from him. The more Tosiek sees Leon with Konrad, the more he feels intrigued. He soon approaches them and comes across a video of him on Konrad’s phone.
Konrad attempts to explain, but a fight breaks out, which also gets Maks involved. Everyone’s parents, except for Leon’s, who live outside the city limits, are asked to come to school.
Tosiek’s father hears Konrad’s story from Konrad’s father about how hard it was for Konrad to come out. Meanwhile, Konrad comes clean in front of Tosiek and Leon. He was filming his sister, and Tosiek just got caught in his video. He clarifies that he didn’t spread those videos of Tosiek online.
They also come to understand why Maks is a bully after seeing how his father treats him. Tosiek still doesn’t understand what is bothering Leon, who stays quiet through all of this and just wants to clean up the mess.
Amidst all of this, Tosiek didn’t pay attention to his and Roksana’s presentations. They failed to present it in class when the time came.
Despite hitting rock bottom, Tosiek later makes up with Leon, but a confrontation with a group of men sees Leon walk out on Tosiek and leave him all alone. Leon later comes to apologize, but Tosiek doesn’t pay him any heed.
In the classroom, when Tosiek faces the wrath of an insensitive class teacher, he stands up for himself. He is then aided by his classmates, including the likes of Maks, who make sure that the class teacher doesn’t speak another word against Tosiek.

Who leaked Tosiek and Leon’s videos?
Tosiek becomes a hero for standing up against that rude class teacher. Roksana meets him in the washroom and lets him know that she leaked his videos.
Tosiek laughs at her. In turn, Roksana confronts him for only thinking about himself. Roksana just doesn’t understand why people still like Tosiek and invite him to parties, knowing how selfish he is.
Roksana asks if Tosiek even knows how she, Leon, or Konrad feel. She then lets him know that Leon’s parents abandoned him upon finding out that he is gay. On top of that, last year, Leon spent three months in the hospital because someone beat him up for dancing with a guy.
Roksana knows all of this because, unlike Tosiek, she actually tried to talk to Leon and understand him.
Does Tosiek’s father accept his son?
Tosiek’s father spends more time with Konrad’s father, who has accepted his son for who he is. Tosiek’s father says that his Tosia is gone, but Konrad’s father reminds him that he still has Tosiek.
Tosiek’s father remembers his son’s childhood and later shows Tosiek his videos from back then. He tells Tosiek that he saw signs of what Tosiek wanted to be.
Tosiek tried to be like his mother after she was gone, and Tosiek’s father thought it was best for Tosiek to be that way.
Tosiek explains that it isn’t okay to be confused. His father has finally understood. He assures Tosiek that there is nothing wrong with him. It will all be alright, and they will handle it. Tosiek then lies in his father’s arms and cries.
Do Tosiek and Leon end up together?
Tosiek takes advice from his father and decides not to give up on Leon, who is now at his parents’ house. Tosiek plans to mend things with him. To do that, he needed to track down Leon’s parents’ house.
Tosiek breaks into the school’s office with the help of his friends. A professor helps them with the address. Tosiek’s father drives him to Leon’s, but they don’t find him there.
On their way back, they see Leon walking his dog. Tosiek reunites with Leon. They both lock a kiss and makeup. Tosiek says no one is a failure or a mistake. They are both afraid, and that is fine.
