Emiko Melchiorri: GAMERA -Rebirth- character explained

In GAMERA -Rebirth-, Emiko Melchiorri is a scientist who works for the Eustace Foundation. The character is voiced by Saori Hayami.

When Boco, Joe, Brody, and Junichi are first saved by Gamera, two people who work for the Eustace Foundation, named Tazaki and Emiko, take the children to question them about the incident.

Emiko is a scientist, and she tells Boco and his friends about kaiju and their discovery. Emiko seems like a good person, and the children like her. However, neither Tazaki nor the children are aware of her ulterior motive.

A good friend

When Emiko and Tazaki take the children to the Foundation’s Yonaguni Island Mining Base on a high-tech ship, Emiko shows them around. Junichi is very excited and asks several questions, and Emiko answers all of her questions with just as much excitement.

Junichi is a curious child, and Emiko can understand her struggles, as Emiko was just like her when she was younger. Emiko asked too many questions and did not mind not having any friends.

When an upset Junichi starts questioning her friendship with Boco, Joe, and Brody, Emiko comforts her. This leads to Junichi befriending Emiko. Later, when a kaiju attacks the island, Emiko risks her life to find the children and save them.

Emiko, who never loses her nerve in the face of adversity, rises to the occasion whenever everyone is in danger and Tazaki fails to take charge of the situation. This makes Tazaki respect her, but he soon realizes that Emiko is not the person he believes her to be.

Emiko’s plan and her downfall

After the attack on the island, it is revealed that Emiko has been nice to the children only because she intends to feed them to Viras. Now that she has them trapped and knows that Boco is the chosen child, she is going to revive Viras and feed the children to it in order to make it devour everything.

Emiko is no longer working for the Foundation. She believes that her aunt killed her mother and became the head of the family, so she intends to kill the board members, which includes her aunt, and become the head of her family.

Emiko stops the shipments being sent to the board members on the Moon. Without various necessities, the board members will die. Emiko will put into action the Foundation’s plan to purify the Earth and escape the planet with her trusted men in a space shuttle.

However, Emiko only cares about herself and does not think twice before abandoning her people. This leads to Emiko’s downfall. Dario, one of Emiko’s men, comes to know that she plans to leave him behind and works with Tazaki to foil her plan.

Emiko revives Viras, but Tazaki and Dario change the settings, leaving Emiko no control over the speed of revival. The two men then take the children and escape the Earth in the space shuttle that Emiko was supposed to use for her escape.

Viras and Gamera’s fight destroys the control room, where Emiko is keeping tabs on the fight. Emiko survives the building’s collapse, only to be attacked by Gyaos. The kaiju eats her, and Emiko never gets to accomplish her goals.
