Dimitri serves as the primary antagonist in The Tailor, providing the perfect villain to Peyami and Esvet’s difficult love story.
The Tailor follows a famous fashion designer named Peyami inadvertently housing an impersonator. When he learns her true identity and the relationship she shares with his best friend, he doesn’t turn her over to him.
This is because his best friend, Dimitri, is one of the most unstable and inhumane people out there, and the thought of what he might do to the impersonator who fled his captivity frightens Peyami, preventing him to hand her over to his best friend.
A possessive abuser
Dimitri is fast and loose with women and at the start of The Tailor he’s shown to be having sex with a model while she has to hurry up to the runway, with a complete disregard for her immediate duties as a model.
However, he does find one who he calls his one true love — Esvet. She’s the one his marriage has been arranged to and he’s fallen for her completely.
When she visits his house with her parents, he takes her for a tour of the rooms where he tells her they’d be staying, boasting about the renovations and designing he’s delved into, to make the perfect abode for them.
Nothing about it romantic, though, as Esvet soon comes to learn in one of the most horrifying ways. Her mere expressions of unappiness don’t go down Dimitri’s throats, and he soon starts abusing her.
He sexually molests her too, while also keeping her as essentially a captive inside her house. Showing her the demented idea of love he entertains, he keeps her locked inside a box at one point too, and before releasing her temporarily to give the wedding dress measurements, he orders her to not make the mistake of divulging any information regarding their relationship to anyone else.
A rich brat
Dimitri is one spoiled brat, and even though his father has a lot of ire whenever he interacts with his son, a major reason for his nature and tendencies can be attributed to his parents.
His mother Lia seems to be very lenient in her parenting, keeping a mum while her psychotic son wreaks havoc at everything and everyone, shocking one and all with his erratic outbursts of anger.
His father Ari is the only one who can often tighten the leash around him, but Dimitri isn’t strictly bound to this leash, breaking it to rebel and protests a lot of times.
At one point, Dimitri drenches his father’s office chair and table with his urine when he gets upset at a decision Ari makes.
A psychopath
Dimitri is practically unhinged, and throughout The Tailor, his obsessive mission to get Esvet under his palm proves that, especially with the way he resorts to extremes to achieve what he seeks.
Not just when he’s coked up and shooting drugs into his system, but even in sobriety Dimitri is one dangerous man, and his abusive tendencies and attitude can pose just as horrific a threat to others.
Esvet tries her best to escape his captivity, and manages to do so as well, more than once. However, the sheer obsession of Dimitri is enough for him to sniff Esvet’s hiding place out, and unleash his insanity upon her and her lover Peyami.
