Plot summary:

It’s finally peaceful in the Valley after Terry Silver was sent to prison and Cobra Kai was shut down.

The karate wars came to an end and the remaining students still interested joined Miyagi Do where Daniel, Johnny, and Chozen were their senseis.

They plan to still attend the Sekai Taikai but they cannot agree on what name to choose as the students are from both Miyagi Do and Eagle Fang.

Meanwhile, the children are all in their senior year of high school and have their futures to look forward to.

Miguel hopes to get into Standford, but Robby doesn’t have too many hopes. Peyton is in the same boat as she spent a year on probation, while Sam has the luxury to choose.

Demetri is excited to join MIT with Eli like they dreamed about all of these years. Robby has also been trying to reach out to Kenny ever since Terry went to prison.

He wants to chance to redeem himself and make up for leaving Kenny behind in a toxic environment where he learned all the wrong things.

Kenny’s brother is out of juvie and he tells Robby to stay away. He does later realize that Robby and the others in Miyagi Do might be talking sense and asks Kenny to reconsider.

Johnny agrees to become Miyagi Do because Eagle Fang is just a modified Cobra Kai and that was Kreese’s legacy, something he doesn’t want to continue.

Kreese heads to Korea to meet Kim Da Eun and her students and wants them to enter the Sekai Taikai but Kreese has to get permission from his old sensei, Master Kim.

Master Kim sends him on a journey through the jungle to prove he still has what it takes and Kreese passes the test.

He then sets about getting Kim Da Eun’s students in line, especially the best and most troublesome, Kwon Jae-Sung.

While moving around some things in his room, Daniel, Chozen, and Amanda find an old box belonging to Mr. Miyagi.

It had things pointing to a secret past that even Daniel didn’t know about. They follow the clues and discover that Mr. Miyagi fled the US after he beat up someone and stole a fancy necklace.

Daniel’s entire image of Mr. Miyagi is thrown into question and he struggles to come to terms with it.

Johnny gets a job at Daniel’s showroom because he needs to find a new place for his growing family and somehow afford Miguel’s college tuition.

The Sekai Taikai association announces that the competition will be held in Barcelona and that each team will have 6 members.

To avoid biases, Daniel and Johnny bring in Barnes to choose the top 6 students of Miyagi Do.

The completion of places brings out the best, and the worst in many of them. Devon sabotages Kenny to gain her spot.

Kenny still has some residual anger left and believes Anthony was the one who sabotaged him. Anthony is too focused on winning and doesn’t take it too well when he was beaten by Kenny earlier in the selection.

Hawk didn’t apply for MIT because his worldview has changed and knows there are more options out there.

Demetri finds out and criticizes his decision. They go head to head for a spot on the team and when Hawk drops his guard for a second, Demetri takes advantage and gets on the team.

Chozen heads back to Okinawa to make the most of his time after learning that lesson from Amanda and Daniel.

The final team for Miyagi Do is Miguel, Robby, Sam, Tory, Demetri, and Devon. Devon cheated Kenny out of a spot because she felt incredibly insecure about her abilities.

Once the team is chosen, a male and female captain has to be chosen and it is decided that it will be a traditional one-on-one fight between Robby and Miguel, and Tory and Sam.

Ending explained:

A method of grieving

Tory is visiting the doctor to get an update about her mother and she gets only good news. She runs into Kreese who tells her that she will never belong at Miyagi Do.

Tory returns home and finds her mother on the floor. She is at the hospital when the doctor tells her that it was a sudden embolism and there was very little they could do about it.

Tory ignores everyone and just thinks about the good times she spent with her mother. She shows up for her fight with Sam and doesn’t tell anyone what happened.

Different priorities

Miguel gets an email from Stanford saying his application is being deferred. His mother and Johnny tell him that it’s not the end yet.

Sam tells him that being captain of the Sekai Taikai team will look good on his resume. Robby doesn’t have the same thing to look forward to, but he wants it just as much.

He’s tired of always finishing runner-up and finally wants that top spot. He takes on Miguel and wins, becoming the boy’s captain.

Miguel takes the defeat hard, but he tries not to let it affect him too much.

Seeking closure

Johnny wants to make sure Daniel isn’t favoring his students and Daniel doesn’t want Johnny to bring his old habits into this dojo.

Johnny agrees to referee Sam and Tory’s match, but Tory is very aggressive and Amanda gets a call from the hospital telling her what happened.

They stop the fight against Tory’s wishes and she tells everyone that her mother died. Sam agrees that it isn’t the right time to fight, but Johnny agrees with Tory’s wishes.

When they don’t allow it, she walks away. Johnny tells Daniel that fighting is her way of dealing with her emotions.

They argue and Johnny comments on Miyagi’s past which Daniel doesn’t like and gets a strike to the face.

Johnny says that he’s going to stay as Sensei for the kids alone, not for him or anyone else.

Hawk gets on the team after Troy leaves, and they head to Barcelona for the tournament. There they see Kim Da Eun and Kreese with their version of Cobra Kai.

One of the members of that team is Tory, who went to the one person she felt she could trust.
