Raymond Clark: True Detective: Night Country character explained

In True Detective: Night Country, Raymond Clark is a Tsalal scientist connected to Annie’s case. Owen McDonnell plays Clark.

Raymond Clark is a scientist specializing in paleomicrobiology. He is one of the scientists who were working at the Tsalal Arctic Research Station.

It is revealed that Clark was acting strange and said, “She’s awake,” before whatever happened at Tsalal transpired.

The video of him acting differently is discovered by Danvers and Peter on one of the phones of the Tsalal men.

An investigation into the case sees people mentioning that Clark was always weird. A man saw him talking to himself and staring at nothing.

He would lock himself in his room, not letting anyone inside, and would cry all alone. The other scientists, on the other hand, just ignored him.

Connections to Annie

When Danvers’ team finds the bodies of the scientists, one of the scientists has a spiral sign on their head—a sign Rose Aguineau claims is ancient.

Navarro has seen that sign before. She tells Danvers to ask questions about the spiral. They find out that Clark has a spiral tattoo on his chest.

Danvers finally finds information on Clark from the tattoo artist. Among the photos of Clark that the artist has, one has Annie in it.

Annie has the same tattoo, and they are posing together, which suggests that Clark and Annie were together.

The DNA results also confirm that the tongue found at Tsalal belongs to Annie.

Annie and Clark’s affair was a secret romance. Navarro knows everything about Annie, but somehow she doesn’t know about this affair.

While thinking about how they kept this romance a secret, Navarro remembers that Clark had bought a trailer. She concludes that he must’ve got it for Annie.

While Danvers discovers more strange writings and symbols in Clark’s reports from Tsalal, Navarro finds Clark’s trailer, which is full of voodoo stuff and traces of Annie.

In the meantime, Peter finds out that Clark is missing from the bodies they discovered. Clark didn’t get separated. He is alive and still out there.
