Chu Cheng-nan: Let’s Talk About CHU character explained

Chu Cheng-nan, Ai’s father, finds himself in a tricky situation after losing a huge sum of money. Hong Sheng-te plays Chu Cheng-nan.

Cheng-nan has been married to his wife, Mei-chih, for more than thirty years, but their relationship has been strained for some time now.

After a particularly bad fight with Mei-chih, Cheng-nan tells her that he is leaving for Indonesia, but he has other plans.

Cheng-nan’s mistakes

When Ai was five years old, Cheng-nan went to a hostess bar with her sleeping in the car. The incident left a deep impact on Ai, as she saw her father with other women there.

Cheng-nan never discussed the incident with Ai, who was left with a fear of abandonment that still prevents her from falling in love as an adult.

Mei-chih raised their three children on her own, as Cheng-nan was always working. However, he now accuses Mei-chih of not raising their son, Yu-sen, right.

Even though Yu-sen is doing well for himself, Cheng-nan is disappointed in him for not managing his factory in Indonesia, which stopped making a profit years ago.

Additionally, even after losing ten million dollars, including his life savings, Cheng-nan does not confide in his family about the financial troubles the factory is facing.

He gets into arguments with Mei-chih whenever she donates money without giving her an explanation, as he does not want her to worry.

To make some extra money, he decides to work for a scammer. He has to live in a shabby apartment and sell counterfeit medicines to people.

He keeps this from his wife as well, who believes that he has gone to Indonesia. Cheng-nan does not realize that all these missteps will lead to a big misunderstanding.

Misunderstandings and resolutions

Mei-chih keeps trying to contact Cheng-nan, but as he is not allowed to use his phone while working for the scammer, he does not answer her calls.

When Mei-chih is diagnosed with an STD, she starts believing that Cheng-nan cheated on her and decides to divorce him.

This leads to their children intervening. They find out that Cheng-nan is in Taiwan and send Ai to speak to him.

Ai sees her father with the scammer, and due to her past experience with him, she assumes that he is cheating on her mother.

Ai confronts her father, but he gives her no explanation and refuses to return home, making matters worse.

However, when Yu-sen is told that his father asked to borrow ten million from an acquaintance, he, along with Ai, tracks him down and discovers the truth.

Yu-sen assures Cheng-nan that he will take care of his financial problems and convinces him to close the factory, despite Cheng-nan’s reluctance due to concern for his workers.

Yu-sen and Ai bring him home. Cheng-nan’s children encourage him to resolve his differences with Mei-chih.

Cheng-nan apologizes to Mei-chih and tells her his reasons for lying to her. He acknowledges his mistakes and admits that he still loves Mei-chih, who forgives him.

Half a year later, they are seen enjoying their time together and planning vacations, in stark contrast to how they used to be.

Cheng-nan also learns that the police shut down the fake medicine business and realizes that he left at the right time.
