Cate: Monarch: Legacy of Monsters character explained

In Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Cate is the daughter of Hiroshi, who has Bill Randa’s files hidden. She comes to Japan to settle her father’s affairs. Anna Sawai plays Cate.

Cate is a schoolteacher who was with her students on a school bus on G-Day, the day Godzilla attacked San Francisco. She wasn’t able to save some of her students. The memories of that experience still haunt her.

Cate gets Monarch’s attention

A year after G-Day, in 2015, Cate arrives in Tokyo, Japan, to settle her father’s affairs, only to learn that he has been living a double life. Her father, Hiroshi, has another family in Japan.

Cate already hates her father for being a workaholic and not being present for his family. Now she has another reason to despise him. The last time Cate saw her father was five days after G-Day. After ensuring his family’s safety, he left for work despite Cate insisting that he stay.

A week later, the state police in Fairbanks, Alaska, informed Cate and her mother that the bush plane Hiroshi was on had disappeared into a storm.

Cate and Kentaro discover files hidden at their father’s workplace

Cate’s half-brother, Kentaro, defends their father. Kentaro takes Cate to their father’s workplace, and the two come across top-secret old storage data locked in a safe. Accessing these files puts them on Monarch’s radar, forcing them to stick together.

Cate’s fears

With Monarch on their tail, Cate, Kentaro, and the latter’s ex-girlfriend, May, who is a tech expert, find Lee, who reveals to them that Hiroshi worked for Monarch; it’s a family business.

According to Lee, Monarch isn’t what it used to be, and he intends to find what happened to Hiroshi with Cate, Kentaro, and May. Unlike Kentaro, Cate is not interested in finding her father. She sees Monarch as a family curse rather than a business.

The truth is that Cate fears what else she is going to find out about her father as they dive deep into this mystery.
