The latest Rian Johnson murder mystery thriller, ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ has finally premiered on Netflix and it brings together a stellar cast for an entertaining ride.
This sequel to 2019’s ‘Knives Out’ takes Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc to a private Island in Greece where a dangerous mystery unfolds. It also features the likes of Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, Jessica Henwick, and Madelyn Cline.
However, despite having such an eclectic collection of actors, the film also features many blink-and-miss appearances from multiple celebrities. Let’s take a deep dive into this exhilarating whodunnit and explain all the cameos that you might have overlooked.
Every ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ cameo explained in detail:
In a very tiny role, Roberts plays Devon Debella, Claire’s (Hahn) husband. He is the one to receive the puzzle box when it arrives at their residence.
The CNN journalist appears briefly as himself at the beginning of the film as he interviews Governor Claire Debella about her political campaign that is being back by billionaire Miles Bron (Norton).
Hoffman plays Duke’s (Bautista) mother and makes a small appearance in the opening sequence. She slaps Duke for speaking rudely to her and even helps the group solve the puzzle box.
The renowned cellist, Yo-Yo Ma is shown briefly at Birdie Jay’s (Hudson) party, which she’s hosting when she gets the box. He helps the group solve the fugue, a musical puzzle within the box.
Stephen Sondheim, Dame Angela Lansbury, Natasha Lyonne, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
The late composer Stephen Sondheim, the late Dame Angela Lansbury, NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and actress Natasha Lyonne all appear on a Zoom call with Benoit Blanc after they are done playing ‘Among Us’ together. They are shown to be his friends and worry about his melancholic conduct during the lockdown.
Grant appears as Blanc’s domestic partner. We get a bit more insight into the detective’s personal life and discover he lives with another man named Phillip. He is shown in a flashback when Helen shows up at their house with the broken box.
Credited as the “Efficient Man”, Hawke shows up before the guests board the yacht to travel to the island. He is Miles’ employee who sprays everyone with a disinfectant and gives them all a wristband before they leave.
Although we do not see Joseph Gordon-Levitt as himself in the film, he is the voice of the notoriously loud hourly gong that goes off on Miles’ island.
The American tennis legend also shows up in Glass Onion in a very unexpected way. When Blanc and Helen hide in Miles’ gym, a video featuring Williams is shown to be playing in the background.
However, it eventually becomes clear that it is actually her waiting on a video call, in case someone wants a guided workout.
Segan plays Derol, a random background character on the island who just stays there. He is present in many scenes but has no part to play in the narrative. The actor also appeared in the first film as Trooper Wagner.
Jared Leto and Jeremy Renner
These two Hollywood veterans also do not appear in the flesh but are mentioned in the film. Firstly, Miles treats his guests to an alcoholic kombucha by Leto, which is a hit. Furthermore, Blanc later loves a hot sauce during dinner and Miles reveals that Renner is responsible for producing it.
Both the kombucha and the hot sauce play a vital role in driving the narrative.
