In episode 13 of Welcome to Samdal-ri, the one-sided lover Bu Sang-Do finally finds some alone time with Cho Sam-Dal, but confessing his love might not be as easy as he had thought.
Bu Sang-Do has always liked Cho Sam-Dal, but growing up, he never got the chance to confess his feelings to her.
It’s also because she was always closer to both of their best friend, Cho Yong-Pil.
As an adult, he decided to finally confess to her, but it was already too late; Yong-Pil and Sam-Dal had already turned from best friends to lovers.
In the present day, Yong-Pil and Sam-Dal have been separated for years now, and Sam-Dal has returned to her hometown after suffering an unfair career halt.
Bu Sang-Do feels it’s finally his time to let all his feelings out in front of her, but her love for Yong-Pil has still not died down, and that gives Bu Sang-Do second thoughts.
He even confronts Yong-Pil about it, telling him that he’s liked Sam-Dal since childhood and that he wants to tell her how he feels now.
He can’t because he feels Yong-Pil still has feelings for Sam-Dal, and that would make it a dilemma for him since he’s a best friend. However, Yong-Pil encourages him to do what his heart feels.
Sang-Do finally gathers the courage and overcomes the feeling of guilt, telling Yong-Pil later on that he will be confessing his feelings to Sam-Dal.
He continues to miss out on the chances to do so, though, as Yong-Pil and Sam-Dal’s feelings for each other keep resurfacing until he finally finds some time to spend with her, alone.
Confession ain’t easy
Fresh off the hurt she receives from being confronted by Young-Pil’s resentful father, again, Sam-Dal is feeling the blues and gazes off into the distance.
Bu Sang-Do spots her and the two sit by the seaside during the nighttime, and this alone time makes for the perfect opportunity for Sang-Do, who can finally confess his feelings to her.

However, this situation isn’t really as ideal as it may seem at first glance. He was present nearby when Yong-Pil’s aggrieved father lashed out at her last night.
He saw Yong-Pil pull Sam-Dal away from the situation and walk out of Gyeong-Tae’s shop.
Sang-Do then went inside and saw the chit inside the red yarn that contained the confession Sam-Dal made to Yong-Pil during their younger days.
Now, sitting with her, looking at her all blue and lost with the thoughts of her dysfunctional romance with Cho Yong-Pil, Sang-Do knows it’s not the right time, it’s not his chance to confess his feelings.
He shares his situation with her, though, telling her he likes a girl and has liked her forever, but the girl likes someone else. Sam-Dal, clueless that he’s talking about her, wonders who it could be.
She asks if he’s at least confessed to this girl yet or not. Sang-Do says he hasn’t. He tells her that his chance has never come, and he doesn’t know if it ever will.
He then asks her what if he feels that the chance will never come. Sam-Dal thinks for a moment and then confidently tells him to give up, because not doing so would be an unrequited love at that point.
She has experienced unrequited love, and she says from experience that he should give up if it will never happen if he never gets his chance.
She admits she would rather have that unrequited love when it comes to her.
But for her friend Bu Sang-Do, she hopes that he never gets into a hopeless one-sided love, because it’s too painful.
Her words make Sang-Do tear up, as he is going through the same hopeless, unrequited love for years.
He also knows that he can’t give up, as his heart holds out for hope still, even as it seems it’s all hopeless.
And so Bu Sang-Do can’t confess his feelings for Cho Sam-Dal to her. Only time will tell if he ever decides to do that, or feels that his chance has arrived.
