Boo Sang-Do is a major supporting character in the romantic comedy Kdrama, Welcome to Samdal-ri. The character is played by Kang Young-Seok.
Cho Sam-Dal left Jeju Island to go and become a successful photographer in Seoul. Before that, she had a bad breakup with her childhood best friend and then lover, Cho Yong-Pil.
She had other best friends as well, and they included Gyeong-Tae, Eun-U, and Boo Sang-Do, someone who often got sidelined by the group, as well as Sam-Dal, who he had a major crush on.
Underprivileged upbringing
Unlike the other members of his best friend group, Sang-Do never got to enjoy economic comfort while growing up. This continued as he grew up as well.
He couldn’t get into a college for the same reason, despite being a relatively bright student. His financial handicap is shown to have caused him to miss out on some fun excursions with his friends.
While others soon moved to Seoul to pursue their dreams, he had to stick around in his hometown, working hard to help his parents and get the restaurant business going.
The glow up
Against the expectations and odds, Boo Sang-Do emerged victor. As an adult, he is one of, if not the richest member of the group. His restaurant really worked and made him a wealthy man.
He owns a yellow Lamborghini throughout Jeju Island, and everyone in the village knows about him and his signature speedster. However, he’s still humble where it counts.
At his restaurant, he still works as a regular employee and serves the customers with patience and care.
An unrequited love
Boo Sang-Do has always had a crush on Cho Sam-Dal. He has always seen her with just as much attention and adoration as Cho Yong-Pil has, but he never got to confess or express his feelings.
That is because Cho Sam-Dal and Cho Yong-Pil were always just a bit too close to each other for him to wiggle some room for himself. Sang-Do always wanted to tend to Sam-Dal, but Yong-Pil acted first.
Sam-Dal herself always liked Yong-Pil as more than just a friend, while Sang-Do remained a brotherly friend. Years after Sam-Dal and Yong-Pil’s breakup, she returns to the village.
Boo Sang-Do is elated beyond words at the news of her return, and in it, he sees an opportunity to pursue his feelings for her finally. Now he is prompt in tending to her needs.
He buys an ointment for her bruises before Yong-Pil does and holds an umbrella over her before Yong-Pil can hand her a spare one.
He is quicker in handing her tissues when she cries and pays off compensation to drive away a pesky journalist harassing her.
She does take notice but Yong-Pil’s love for her, and her love for Yong-Pil, hasn’t died out yet. Sang-Do picks up on that, and yet he must speak his heart out or miss out on the chance forever.
