Bishnu: Choona character explained

Bishnu is a major supporting character in Netflix’s crime comedy caper series, Choona. The character is played by Chandan Roy.

There are many men who go up against Shukla the superstitious gangster-turned-politician. Most of these men are seeking revenge against him because they’ve been wronged by him in the past.

The nature of their torment at the hands of Shukla ranges from humiliation to bankruptcy to near death.

However, one of these men, who happens to be right under Shukla’s nose as his most loyal servant and brother-in-law, also happens to be the one who lost his loved one at the hands of the corrupt minister.

The loss

Bishnu was a little boy when his beloved older sister, who was like a mother to him, was killed by Shukla, her husband. Shukla was an infamous goon who was a new player in politics.

He was already a great expert in astrology and horoscopes though. His superstitions led him to buy into one of the horoscope readings, that entailed danger to his life by his own child.

To undo the potential danger, Shukla killed the source before his child could ever be born. He poisoned his wife and got rid of the perceived danger. Bishnu knew of this and being just a child, he could do nothing but witness the tragic loss.

The vengeance

Shukla, weirdly enough, took pity on little Bishnu, who turned mute because of his sister’s passing. Shukla took him to the city as he started a new life, expanding his wealth and status as he quickly became a big politician.

As he grew up, Bishnu became more and more active in Shukla’s business. From the packaged drinking water to a whole slate of illegal businesses, everything was accounted for and supervised by Bishnu.

Shukla has another trusted and loyal man named Asthana, but even he isn’t made privy to Shukla’s precious assets, and yet his mute brother-in-law is.

For a tyrannical politician whose nickname is “Calculator”, Shukla can’t calculate that his innocent and loyal brother-in-law has been planning revenge against him for the last twenty years.

The catharsis

Shukla’s personal astrology advisor, a priest named Pandit Ramacharya Upadhyaya, took a liking to the politician’s loyal brother-in-law and decided that he would make him speak again one day.

And he succeeds in doing so, after a number of rituals that he performs. However, Bishnu asks him to keep this a secret from everyone else. Later on, he saves Pandit Ji when he’s dumped into the river by Madan Singh, on Shukla’s orders.

He then joins the group of men, including Pandit Ji, to take revenge against Shukla.

Now that he’s aware of every little detail regarding Shukla’s assets, security, and even habits, not to mention all the CCTV cameras he sets up inside his cars and house, he becomes an instrumental part of the mission to take down the evil politician.
